Broken Focussing Tab on Color Skopar 35mm f/2.5

Hiya,

Rather upset, I found the focussing tab had clean sheared off my 35mm Color Skopar today. I am trying to mend it with some metal specific Araldite but wondered if this is something anyone else has had? I can't see a mention of it in the archives or on google.

I guess I got unlucky 🙁(

You should be able to Araldite or even Crazy clue it in place. If not, consider sending it for service (check with Cameraquest.com about who can do it). My only problem with the 35f2.5 was a cracked aperture drive which was replaced at the factory. Mine is a pre-production sample though so stuff was a bit less firmed up (#0000006) at that point.
The focussing tabs can get knocked off easily (i have had it happen to a couple of Summicron's and a Summilux over the years). Ideally it should be screwed in from the inside, but that means taking the lens apart.

Thanks Tom, it's sat in the kitchen now and I will have to wait until tomorrow morning to know if its done the job. I did try to do it as carefully as possible and to the book. If that fails, I might give it one more try, and failing that I will have to look at dismantling the lens (not something I overly fancy but I'm quite good with these things, except the time I killed my Canon EOS 5 some years ago when I ham fistedly tried to fix the command dial...)

It never occurred to me such a thing might be so succeptably fragile. It hasn't been particularly bumped around, just carried in my bag to and from work and it was only when I took it out this evening I saw the focussing tab had come off 🙁 It was fine yesterday as I used it then so something had happened.

I'll report back what happens, either way, I've never been that confident about the success in 'gluing' things it has to be said!

Hope everything works out. I've regularly used my Skopar since 2005, and haven't had any problems - focusing tab or otherwise. Good luck!

Ok some good news, the Araldite (Rapid Steel) seems to have done its job, I have used the lens a fair bit and tried to use it as I normally would (so I've not tried banging it against a wall -- but I have not been over-careful with the focussing tab, just used it normally) and it seems to hold but the long term will show whether it holds or not.

It certainly feels firm and sturdy and thankfully it doesn't look a complete dog's dinner. I don't ever expect to sell the lens in question but even so, it's nice to go out without something dripping Araldite icicles from it 🙂

The focussing Tab on my Summicron-M 35 V3 broke - right where the scre from inside the lens is screwed into the tab.

I do live near a Leica store. Does either of you happen to know if the focussing tab will be something they'll have a spare part for?

okay, i just asked them via telephone whether they have spare parts for it. they said they only repair it, won't sell the part.
Repair will be around 120 euro (approx 150 usd), at least.

can you think of a good alternative in austria for repair

I bought "Leica" focussing tabs from Dag a couple of years ago. Used it to replace a missing tab on one of my Canon lenses.
