Hi!

I've been offered dead M3's
both have jammed shutters and misaligned rf's as well as hideous vulcanite.
I can get two of them with a summaron 35/2.8 with eyes and a filter for about 220$. How much would it cost to get them cla'd\curtains replaced?

Is it worth undertaking such a task?

It's not worth your while, i'll help you off them for that amount as a friendly gesture 😉

Seriously though, here in the Netherlands a CLA which will fix both problems is a round $ 150. So sounds very good to me

Great deal! I'll buy one of the bodies for $100, unseen 😉 (serious)
Regards, Huub

HuubL is right, its actually 150 euros, not US$, so that makes it US$200, but still not a bad price. Apart from that Will is an excellent guy and does great work.
He's also very helpful, gave me some instructions through the telephone as i was tinkering with my M2. It too had a jammed shutter, its probably a strip from the lightshield that is stuck in there. Nice little project to take a M apart and see whats inside. Get the manual that is available online (military one) for free and the one you have to pay for.
Look at it this way: if you only pay $100 for a M, what risk do you run?

If you want to sell the other one as well, i'll give you $100 as well.

Good luck

I think the only way to make it worhtwhile is if onbe leica paid for the CLA of the other(ie I send both to a single person,he clas one and sends it back while keeping the other).

Michael, let's see some photos. You would be amazed how much a broken M could be worth. They are very "fixable"! The breaking point would perhaps be a decemented rangefinder. And don't forget, when it's still in a nice shape, the goggled summaron alone could bring twice the amount that you've to pay for the lot.

I didn't take pictures - the rf patch looks good and the finder clear - one of the cameras has crappy 135 framelins though.
Only the 135 mm frame lines.... Then my offer still stands and I might even up it🙂
Are they ds or ss, plus or minus frame selector, glass or metal pressure plate, etc..?

They have a frame selector and a timer, their numbers is below 1 million/ I dont know ss or ds since they dont wind(stuck shutter). Lever rewind.

The pressure plates seemed metal to me.
