Is it possible to use other backs then the graflex xl back in order to use a Horseman 6x9 rolfilm back and a ground glass for focussing on my brooks veriwide? I searched for a graflex xl back, but it seems a complete graflex camera might even be cheaper

I might try to make an adapter myself by using the original mamiya derived Brooks rolfilm holder although I would like to keep it as original as possible.

If it can indeed use Graflex XL backs, it can use any 6x9 Graflok back. But these are less frequent than Graflex ones, except maybe for the Mamiya 6x7 ones. But I have my doubts about the XL compatibility of the Veriwide - didn't it have a proprietary, oversize back mount?

Do you mean the entire back frame, not the film holder? I doubt there is a substitute for that.

I have a Graflex XLSW with several backs. Older backs had a knob for film advance while newer backs have a lever film advance. I may have 6x7, 6x8, and 6x9 backs.

The Veriwide positively will not hold a Graflok holder, if I am to believe the manual. It sounds as if he needs the entire rear camera frame (provided that that fits - there is no suggestion that that might be interchangeable).

To the op..

Ken Ruth owns a brooks veriwide (the first version) at one time. He should be able to help u w/ your question. He has done repairs on these cameras in the past.

Or google Ken Ruth at bald mountain.

It would be the second version - the Mamiya Press derived one. The first (Brooks-Plaubel Veriwide) was built by Plaubel, employing the body shell of a Balda (or Franka according to other sources) folder for the entire film and transport part - it has no separate film holder component that could possibly be replaced.

Correct: You mean the brooks veriwide 100 as being the first version. After that there is the version I am talking about: changeable back and also to be used with a ground glass. From this type there are two verslons: with the 47/8 and the 47/5.6 superangulon.

Hm. Good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of the Veriwide camera here ;) I love medium format wide angle.

and meanwhile you have given me an idea: I'll be trying to fit my Horseman 842 Convertible with a new front plate and a Super-Angulon 8.0/47mm, once I have saved enough nickels and dimes to come up with a lens :)

Heres mine..one of the fun-ist..cameras ever..mine has swing back..not much bigger then the Leica m..6x10..
Ken Ruth will take care of your Veriwide for you..

Thanks for helping me clarify my question, the brooks pictures above is the veriwide 100 with a fixend back. The links Matthew provided are indeed the standaard Graflex XL backs that I am looking for. They are difficult to find: that is the reason for my question. Does anyone have one or should I make my own, based on the veriwide cassette?
