Yes, i did it. Just when i was SURE i need no more cameras, i bought it. :bang:
A Zeiss Ikonta 6x9 folder is on its way. The biggest format i will have (so far?).
But hey! it's in "perfect working order", the bellows are in great shape, like everything else - and it has a coated 105/3.5 Tessar in a synchro compur 1-1/500 shutter!!!
True, it's not a Super Ikonta; there's no built-in rangefinder - but i have a "watameter II" RF which i will stick on it for use. So, it IS a MF RF 🙂

If it is in great shape,i really really will stop here🙂 AND, i will get rid of the Agfa Isolette I that came with the watameter. It works well but it's a low-end (Agnar lens in Vario shutter) 6x6 version.

The Zeiss should be fine, they were the best of the breed. That is just a general issue for 6x9 folders. I just want to put that issue to bed in my mind, hearing first hand from a user is better than reading these things on the internet.

That's a great looking Ikonta, a 523/2. You picked a winner. Mainly because of the lens and shutter combo.

What's stated in the above instructions is indeed true.
By first unfolding, then rolling the film to the next frame, the film will be flat enough on the film plane. Otherwise, opening the bellows acts like a vacuum cleaner which pulls the film forward.

Tip #2, on the Synchro-Compur, you should get in the habit of only moving the shutter speed into or out of the 1/500th of second position BEFORE you tension the shutter. There is a separate and rather stout auxiliary spring that engaged by the shutter speed escapement when selecting the 1/500th of second setting. I also move the shutter ring away from the 1/500th of second setting when the camera is not in use.

Tip # 3 Keep the Watameter. There isn't a whole lot of depth of field when using a 105mm Tessar close in.

With that lens and shutter combo, you can definitely sell the Isolette I.

Pherdi, I hate to be the one to tell you but these folders are like candy. You just can't quit. NEXT it will be a SUPER Ikonta C or B and then........ well, you get the picture (pun intended). It NEVER stops!

The good news? It's a sickness you can live with and smile the whole time.

Seriously, the old folders are great cameras and just plain fun to use. You're going to love that Ikonta.

BTW, that's a VERY nice looking Ikonta and you'll be pleased with the pictures it takes. Be sure to post some when you do take a roll.

If you really want to get rid of the isolette, I'm interested. 6x9 is great but I "see" in the square so I prefer 6x6. (plus my enlarger won't go bigger than 6x7)
After the good luck I had with the Seagull 4a-107 TLR I bought, I have been wanting a Seagull 203 folder but they are way too expensive for what they are--an Iskira knockoff. I keep hoping that the retro new RF thing will lead somebody to start making a NEW MF folder but I'm not holding my breath waiting for one.

Great, Rob. Just let meg get the Ikonta to see if it's indeed well working; i'll PM you in a few days about this. Also, there's still a neg in the agfa which i will develop - it should show if it has any problems invisible from outside. Otherwise, it's in excellent shape.

I would send you the Agfa for next to nothing; the shipping to the States however, will be considerable.

You will know when the folder bug is incurable when you start bidding on Welta Weltinis, (Pre-WWII, 35mm rangefinder folder with a 50/2.0 uncoated Schneider Xenon).

Anything you can do with it can be done easier and better with a slightly more modern camera, but it is SO COOL!

😀 The Ikonta is here.
A bit dusty, i will have to blow off the dust from the lenses and clean it a bit, but otherwise...it's really in excellent shape. No dents, no rubs, no nothing, everything seems also to work fine - all shutter speeds fire and the slower ones, tested so far by listening to, are working clear and correctly. There are some marks on the film wind knob with numbers - obviouslt somebody tried some trick, i guess with 35mm film or such, where the red window cannot be used.
The 1/500 speed extra spring is REALLY strong. But it fires faster than the 1/250 so it should be fine.

Overall, it looks/feels very nice, i'm burning of the desire to use it. The 105/3.5 Tessar is in very nice shape and it's an impressively big piece of glass.
The bellows look very good, not dry, entire, intact, apparently no holes. (Real leather.)
Hell, there are not even Zeiss bumps on it! 🙂
The only thing is, the stuff does not jump out when i release the front door, i have to "help it" in the beginning - then he'll speed up. The spring seems to be tired or something. (The agfa pops out very fast, i have to block it w my hand to make it smoother).

I hope i can post some shots made with and of the camera (and some coffee).

PS: Man, this folder is HEAVY!!!

And I have a Weltini on the way ( 🙂 ), having waited for at least a year to find one at a price I was willing to pay (Is $30.00 US too much? 😀 ). Of course, it isn't a good looker, so I don't know if it is really worth it until I see it. Here's hoping I can make it look nice and it works correctly.

I really do love folders. Especially Weltas. I think I have mentioned here before that one of my favorite 35mm's is a Welta Welti. Very compact to carry and a nice picture taker. I only got the bug for the Weltini because of this forum. Thanks guys! :bang:
