how much bs is shoved about in these forums?

not the nasty let's start a fight trolling crap, but the i have read it so often it must be true and so i will repeat it too crap?

i read stuff here that IS SO FOREIGN to my photo experience but is spread like gospel and i start to shake my head.

it get very frustrating and my head wants to explode...
 
...and some of the worst offenders are actually smart, accomplished photographers who should know better, but don't.
 
On another site I have been using for many years, registered users can click on a button to give their opinion on the quality of a post: + or -. These are tallied automatically, one point positive or negative for each. Posts with a high positive total make good points, generally. Posts with a negative, net value are usually ones that have false information or abusive comments. Ones with just lost positive values may be ones that are generally correct, but offer nothing of significant interest. The scores for each post then filters back to the poster's rating on the site. Someone with lots of points is one who has posted many times and had things of value to say. It would be neat if a system like that could be implemented on this site. But, what do I know, I'm new here.

Evidence of this engineered evolution can be clearly seen in the ever expanding dimensions of Director Michael Moore, partially induced by self-cultivated quasi-documentaries.

Sure, there is a lot of BS, but I still think the s/n ratio is higher than most other forums I've participated in.
 
Joe, which version of the BS-O-Meter do you recommend? V1 or V2? Which skin should I use to recover it? Should I start a poll on this?

Keith is right; the whole world DOES run on this and the Internet fuels it. Any idiot, take me for example, can spout off his opinion with little or no forethought or effort. What would Johannes Gutenberg say about the ease with which we can share information and dis/misinformation?

Oh well, Joe, as a mod, at least you can kill the really offensive posts. The annoying ones, I guess we just have to live with and/or ignore 'em.

We all know that everything on the internet is true. Well, maybe 10%? Okay, 5?

(But seriously, I choose to read this forum because it is better than others. I marvel at the amount of times the same info and opinions are posted.)
 
I'm going on vacation to Pootville, what camera should I take, what film should I take, what lens should I take, and should I worry about x-rays and tape over the logo of my camera? On the other hand, which $100 camera strap is best for me, and which bag should I put my camera in? I can't decide anything for myself, you decide for me. Thanks so much. Oh, and by the way, "the camera is just a tool."
