I'm going to spend a few days in Bucharest next week. I've never been there before and I was wondering if some fellow member could give some tips what to shoot over there except that massive Parlament building.
I'll travel light as I always do (one backpack is enough for me) but instead of my usual travel gear - Oly RD or similar FLRF - I'll propably pack my Canon IV-Sb equipped with 21mm and 50mm lenses.

Hi Mablo,
Bucharest used to be called the little Paris around the late 19th century, and you can still find some nice architecture and big avenues. Unfortunately decades as the mega-capital of a decadent dictatorship have change the city in a not so Parisian way.
My favorite part of Bucharest nowadays are their huge parks. Probably the center is the best place for a street shooter. Cismigiu next to the center is a beautiful corner to spend some time in, it´s also next to some old universities and in a nice avenue. Not too far it´s the Cercul Militar National which, a beautiful building you can check on your way to the center. Next is Piata Universitate and its weird underground street crossing. It´s a nice area full of old universities, close to the theater and not to far to the Piata Uniri, the capital´s center, which is surrounded by a lot of small streets where you might want to get lost for some nice shoots. Another big square to visit, on the northen part of the city is Piata Victoriei, where you can find the goverment (psshh don´t make noise, some people´s sleeping there!), Triumph Arch and the Museu Satului, an impressive open air museum with reproductions of houses from all over Romania, so well done that some people live there! Also there is the Herastrau park, a HUGE park, lake included.
From the central square you can easily arrive to the Parliament, also connected with a nice avenue. It´s a big ugly tasteless building, from my point of view. Go visit the contemporary art museum inside, entering from behind, it´s a lot better!
Other places you should visit are Palatul Cotroceni it´s an old presidential palace from the 19 century (iirc) you can visit and get impress with their huge ornamented halls. Gradina Botanica it´s a nice garden close to the palace.
Hope this helps!

I'm looking forward to seeing photos you'll make Mablo! I've been to Bucharest 17 years ago but have not seen much of the city and I wasn't a shooter then...

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far. I really enjoyed my first short visit to Romania and Bucharest. At first the city might seem like a big mess but very soon you'll realise that there's a lot of charm beneath the surface. Not the least because of the endless stream of beautiful black haired ladies all over the place.

Is it really Bucharest? I don't see any dogs and wires.
