Here's a couple images shot with my MP and 90/4 Elmar of my 4-year boy Benjamin. I do not let him handle the Leicas yet but he seems to have the knack and it will only be a matter of time....unless the digital demons grab him first that is.

Funny thing: After one photo he took of another boy who was about 3 years old the little boy ran over and tried to look at the back of the camera saying: "Let me see it!" The kid probably never even saw a film camera before.

Old cameras are pretty hard to break, so I do let the kids play with them. She had just turned 5 last spring when she discovered the advantages of a rangefinder (she loves to look through it but has no interest in trying to focus it!)

Hey Richard,

I gave my 5 year old daughter old Canon p&s camera too. She is mesmerized by it, takes it everywhere she goes and takes surprisingly good pictures. Funny thing is, she can't close her left eye while looking through the viewfinder, so she puts her baby finger over it to keep it closed. She is pretty good at framing and the only issue she has is keeping the camera horizontal. But hey, Winogrand tilted it on purpose, so why can't she .

I love that shot of your daughter holding the sweet little Nikon! I'm often thinking at letting my kids-to-be sometimes hold my cameras, and let them shoot when they grow up .. then i'll be happy
