Hi -

I am a new proud owner of a Yashica GS - great little camera!

I would like to use the camera for some long exposures (star trails), which often requires several hours worth of exposure time. Does anyone know if the GS uses the battery to hold open the shutter during bulb, or if the shutter is held open by mechanical means?

Thanks!

IT needs a battery to operate in B mode. Without one it defaults to 1/500 speed in any mode.

Yes, true that the bulb cannot activate without battery. What I need to know is if the camera uses battery power to hold the shutter open the whole time. I would hate to run out of battery in the middle of my exposure.

Anyone know the technical details of this?

Thanks!

Thanks! I guess no 1-hour exposures with this camera. That's ok, I have other ones to do that with.

Looking forward to using the GN - seems like a nice little camera!
