Burke & James Carl Meyer LTM ?

I picked up a B&J 4" f2 Carl Meyer LTM and was curious to hear if anyone has ever used one and the results of that use (insert drum role) or whether i should just give it to the neighbor boys so they can run around burning the asphalt with it 😉

My experience with B&J optics have been pretty good. I don't why it can't give you good results..

I saw one on ebay, about a week ago attached to a Canon body, marked <EP>. Did a bit of research and came up with nothing. But since the Canon 50/0.95 also came in a Meyer version (same optics, different beauty ring), I figured might have been a different incarnation of the Canon 100/2.

Anybody knows about a relation between Canon and Carl Meyer ? Peter ? Thanks,

Don't do that! I'll take it. Carl Meyer didn't exactly make the finest lenses on the planet but they were useable. It'd be fun to actually use! I have a Leitz LTM to M adapter sitting here awaiting a lens. Actually, it'd be best used on a Canon body with a 100mm frame line in the finder.

Try the lens, and I think that you'll have your answer soon enough. Don't let others make the decision for you. Take some photos and draw your own conclusion.

Burke & James sold some lenses from whatever source they could get under the Carl Meyer name, I guess hoping people would get confused with Carl Zeiss and Hugo Meyer. These obviously are both well known trade marks. However, Burke & James also sold off the collection of lenses taked by Gen Patton's 3rd Army from Carl Zeiss in Jena (before Jena was given to the Soviets). So there is some possibility, perhaps remote, that it is a Carl Zeiss lens. Can you post some pictures?

Looks almost identical to a Canon 100/2 to me ....

Wow! I wonder if Canon knew. The Canon 100mm f2.0 is said by many to be better than the 90mm Summicron. You may have an excellent lens.

That should be a good useable lens. I would take off the pringles lens hood though, they have been known to cause vigenetting. 🙂

I am going to go ahead and try it out this weekend. I can hardly wait.
i thought it" looked" pretty nice also, but could find absolutely zero information about this particular f2 LTM . I knew i could probably get the best info on the net right here on RFF
