I will in Osaka for a week during April and I was wondering whether it would be cost effective to buy a M2 in Osaka as I have heard much about the wonders of Japanese camera shops. In Australia it seems that prices for leicas are quite high reaching values around $1000 (they clearly haven't factored in the strong AUD!). So is it worth it to buy in Osaka? Can you haggle in shops and get cheaper prices by paying in cash? Or would the best course of action be to buy on ebay or somewhere else online?

The main reason for choosing a M2 is that I like using a 35mm. Also are there any recommended photo locations in Osaka?

I don't know about Osaka's camera shops but in Tokyo everything labeled " Leica" is way over-priced ... Cash is usually the only way to pay if you are foreigner with foreign credit card and discounts are possible if you are fluent enough in Japanese to negotiate a discount or you are regular customer.

I agree with Gabor, and would add that Leica prices in Osaka are basically the same as the inflated Leica prices in Tokyo. You can find much better deals here in the RFF classifieds. Though, one advantage of shopping in Japan is the very good selection available.
