Buying film in Hawaii

Hi so I'll be in Hawaii for 2 weeks in early Feb. Mostly staying in Waikiki.

How is purchasing film in Hawaii? 35mm and 120. I'm tossing up whether to take with me or buy over there. I'd prefer to buy over there if I can (take 2 or 3 rolls of B&W of each format with me then buy the rest when I get over there, probably mostly colour).

Also, how is film processing there? Does anywhere still do it and what is the turn around like? I'd like to get all of the colour stock developed before I leave (well, a majority of it anyway if I can).

If anyone can give some advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Check out this thread in the Hawaii Film Photographers group on Flickr.

For film, I'd suggest ImageWorks. It's about 3 miles from Waikiki and Christine, the owner, is great. You can call in advance to see what stock they have and she can bring special stock in if you request it.

For developing, Rainbow Photo does a great job. C-41 develop only is $4. B&W and E-6, you'd be better off mailing it to a lab on the mainland as prices are really high.

B&W i'll do myself when i get home, but C-41 is way to expensive here. $4 a roll sounds ace! and if i can make time, a Flickr meetup would be cool.

Just go to the ABC stores. They are everywhere. Can't miss them.

not going stateside. i'll email one of the stores listed above a day or two before we fly out and let them know what i'd like and then just stop by and pick it up when i arrive. the beach and cocktails can wait for an hour 🙂
