C&C Please...

Hi Guys,
i haven't posted he recently as i been so busy, but i'd be really grateful if you could give me some C&C. I usually rely on my family to pass judgement over my work, but when it comes to photojournalism they don't have much of a clue i'm afraid. Generally if a photo isn't 'pretty' it isn't any good.
All the images are taken with a Leica M6 and 28mm Elmarit ASPH on Delta 100, scanned with Nikon 5000ED.
Anyway, I would really value your honest opinions. All the images are taken in my usual stomping ground of Cardiff Bay, Wales. I'll try and upload some more onto flickr when I get chance. Many Thanks.

This set is ok if your intent is to show an afternoon's (or is it morning) walk around. However there is little context to put any of them together, or even hold a story within any of them. I wouldn't have been looking for that had you not identified them as photojournalism. With regards to that, the first one is the strongest. Do you have more from that location?

Thanks Chris, these shots are actually part of two sets. Here are a few more, all part of the same set, taken at a French market.
I'll try an sort out a couple of complete sets in the next couple of days.

Dave, I'm not qualified to post a critique of photojournalism, but I must write a few words about the "Vintage Music" photograph.

This one stands alone from the rest as an interesting and amusing shot. There's an ironic juxtaposition between the "vintage" gramophone, the oddly 1970's typescript on the sign and the fact that the stall is selling Compact Discs.

It's the sort of thing we see all the time when browsing markets, but it takes a photograph to bring it to our attention.

Generally, Dave, in such situations people take a great many pictures and then ruthlessly cull them.

Agreed. I recently took a few 36 exposure rolls of people at a recent "techno-music" festival. After processing, only two made my "good enough to post in my RFF gallery" list and only one I really consider to be really good. Best advice I can give folks is to edit the hell out of your pictures.

Thanks a lot guys, i thought i was the only deving rolls of film and only getting one or two shots worth keeping. I guess it takes a lot of practice, and a little bit of good luck to get those 'magical' shots you see in photojournalist books.
