C&C Thumbnails

Browsing backward through the Camera&Coffee thread, I noticed that some - not all, mind - of the posts no longer have the thumbnails they should, and did, have. My own upside-down Yashica (October 17) is also gone, as are the others added that day....
Can an attachment be re-added using the "edit" option without throwing the chronology all off-kilter?

They may have been lost in one of the software upgrades/server changes we have experienced.

I certainly don't know all there is about "what happens if..." here at RFF, but...
I have added and deleted attachments in EDIT without changing the chronology, as you say. It only added a time/date stamp as to when it was edited and left my post in the same position in the thread.
