Howdy,

I posted about this a while back, as part of a multi question post. My other questions were answered (Thanks!) but this one seemed to slip by.

I bought one of the cheap generic cable releases from Ritz Camera a while back, and it will not trip the shutter of my Canonet. It only scews in a little bit before it becomes too snug, and depressing the plunger just will not trip the shutter.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so what was your solution? I'm considering heading to a local shop to try other releases but havn't had much free time lately.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. TIA!

Michael

Here is what I found in case anyone else comes across this problem.

The cable rekease that I originally bought was one of the black plastic coated Ritz Camera pieces. It would screw in to the Canonet about 1/2 turn and extend ~ 1/2 inch.

The cable release I picked up today is a dinky little 10" cable, but it extends ~ 3/4".. long enough to trip the long throw of the Canonet shutter release. It was the store generic brand (apparently generic re-badged to the store brand). It also only screws in about 1/2 - 3/4 turn. It is covered with metal braided material (like I remember them) with a plastic coaring.

The new release is not as smooth as the Ritz model, the lock is clunky in comparison. At least it works :)

Thanks for posting back Michael. I need a new cable release and I'll make sure to get one as you describe so it will work on my Canonet. :)
