Anybody have any good recommendations for a standard cable release?

I have an adorama brand one that I purchased some time ago. It is okay, but the action on it is not very smooth. Just wondering what other brands I should be looking at.

Thanks. 🙂

I got tired of the cheap generic ones after replacing too many of them and about 4 or 5 years ago I bought a "Gepe" branded one. It was more than I'd paid for a cable release but, I think, well worth the $40 I paid. It is long-ish at just about 1 meter and is very flexible and the action is still smooth. Locks easily when I need it to and unlocks just as easy.

I see that B&H has 'em in stock and a bit less than I paid locally:

EDIT: I also have used this in Adirondack winters (-15 F or so) and it was somewhat stiffer but not terrible and still was smooth and controllable.

I found a Canon cable release in an antique shop...I figured it wouldn't be too much so decided to buy it...took it to the counter and the shop owner said..."what ya got there...cable release??? just take it..."
It's very smooth, has a lock, it measures 20" tip to tip...and it was free!!!

Thanks guys. I'll check those out for sure.

Sam - can't get better than free! Awesome.

Rob - It doesn't get quite that cold here. 🙂 Happy to hear it holds up under those cold-weather conditions though!
