Kinda old photo but its what my camera is set up like at the moment, using a hose clamp. It works quite well, it's set up so that when the tab is dead center it's 1.5m. So most of the focusing is taking place on the initial slant making it fairly easy to prefocus yet also fast. It also stops me accidentally changing the aperture ring because it's quite loose on this lens. The camera does sit flat when it's focused at infinity btw and the focus ring is only a 45* turn.
I take it off occasionally when I don't feel like using it, it's never damaged the lens.

it works on me. i have tried on several SLR and M lenses. the focus ring on leica lens are set to be turn with feels of touching silk, same as the Contax YC mount lens. For these easy turn lenses, a half-moon finger tabs can be not better. While for ZM, some voigtlander VM and Nikon auto lenses, which require a bit more strength to turn the focusing ring, i go for a tiring tab.

A 3M electronic tap can be wrapped to the focus ring first, then putting on the tiring tab. I never find it slippy any more.
