It's a nice camera. I wish I could justify upgrading from my 20D.

Can you afford it?
Will you use it?
Will anyone suffer from your buying it?
Answer yes, yes, no and enjoy.
Regards,
Bill

I talked my well heeled friend into the 40D. He loves it.
I opted for the Nikon D80 (less money) but I found the file sizes more than I need to deal with and sent it back.
I get along fine with my D50 and am quite satisfied with the quality and file sizes of a 6 MP image.
Others need more and that`s fine too. There`s plenty of choices out there for everyone and they all make good pic`s.

Why? If you can afford one, why not? If I had a spare $2,000 I'd probably buy one and a lens. But then again, all my canon glass is in FD mount.

Congraulations. In a month or two I plan to be stupid too.
My wife was satisfied with her little Fuji F30 until I let her borrow my trusty Canon 10D. Now she wants me to buy that 40D I've been talking about so she can have the 10D all to herself. She won't have to twist my arm on that one.

If I can afford it now I'd surely buy one, and some L lens as well. But unfortunately being a poor student with gas doesnt help
