Calumet Photo Oakbrook, IL Store To Re-open

Intresting news. I'm glad the new owner have found the market healthy enough to open so soon. Hope they have not lost their sales staff to other employment.

Interesting news but it's going to be even more interesting to see how this works out. C&A are the people who bought both Ritz Camera and Wolf Camera/Camera World when they went into bankruptcy. They haven't done a stellar job with either of those purchases. Of course, Calumet has an upper level clientele as far as the equipment goes but that also may mean the margins are lower.

I got an email the other day from Calumet stating that only certain stores will be closing...the Hollywood store is one of them as they are selling some of the display cases and other store furniture...I guess that the Santa Ana store will be saved...these are the two that were closest to me...although I couldn't tell you the last time I've bought from them...they really don't have things I'm shopping for unless I happen to be in the market for a carbon tripod or nice camera strap...

Ken - They'll have to reopen the Cherry st store, some of us don't go west of Ashland

I don`t east of Berwyn.

Several years back, the Oakbrook staff told me you would never know there was a recession by their traffic. Hope to see Wendy reemployed.

Maybe I will get to see a Df which no one in Chicago stocks.

I find that disturbing... did you check with Central Camera?

As for Calumet... I'm glad, it's good news to the community. The one and only time I shopped there, I ask about dark room items and was given a kind of cold shoulder, especially when an old lady, accompanied by two young men, came in inquiring about the type of digital camera she should have. The staff was all over her... them, showing them all their stock.

Got the re-opening email too, despite living nowhere near any of them.
Last time I was back in Boston, I stopped in their new-ish Cambridgeside location and it was..spartan, to say the least. A bit foreboding. Glad they are making a comeback, since any B&M is good news these days. I don't like buying anything online.
