Camera backplate (interior side) paint question

Hello,
I have noticed one of my cameras has a backplate which on the inside has slight corrosion. I want to remove the very very slight corrosion and will need to repaint black.
Any tips on what paint to use?
Please note we are talking about the "camera" side of the backplate, ie where the filmplate also is. In other words this has to be a functional and workable repair more than an aesthetic one.
Of course currently the part is painted matt black.
I was thinking of rubbing with super fine metal type sandpaper, to remove the slight corrosion, then remove the Film pressure plate (the corrosion is close to where that plate is) and repaint in black.
But how? spray? brush? rub in with a rag?
please help.
 
Are you sure this is even necessary if, as you say, aesthetic considerations don't matter? I don't think this is comparable to a car for example, where something needs to be done about corrosion to stop its progress - a camera can and should be kept dry and that's all that's needed to stop corrosion (exceptions may be areas affected by sweat etc.). If you want to make sure, a tiny amount of oil.
 
I'd be inclined to use steel wool to remove the corrosion, then a thin covering of black enamel applied with i fine camel hair brush. As retinax says, it's probably not necessary, but I think most of us feel better knowing we've done what we can to look after our gear.
 
If you are somewhere where Humbrol enamel paints are available, use their Matt 33 - I once did some work on a Retinette shutter, painted over the scratches I'd made, came back to see if I'd missed any, and couldn't actually see where I'd painted, it matched so well.

Get some flat black enamel model paint from a hobby store and you'll have way more than you need. Pick up a small paintbrush for models while you're there.

Doesn't need to be pretty, but you do want to minimize the chance of stray reflections inside the film chamber, so don't stint in applying the paint.
 
Thanks to all. I don't know if i can get the Humbrol paint in Uk
but the model paint is also a good idea.
Will try to get some after the crazy corona lockdowns are finished

Humbrol is a UK brand. You should be able to find it in most model and toy shops, or online. There are lots of model kit and equipment suppliers who sell online. Should be less than £5 for a tin.

I had this problem with some old lens hoods I wanted to use. I went to a local art supply store and bought several small bottles of acrylic in different shades of black, it only cost a few dollars. I did test patches and found one that was just right. I painted the hoods carefully and it has held up well. It is not as durable as a solvent based paint but it cleaned up with water and has worked well for this amateur. Good Luck, Joe
 
A quick paint note concerning rust. You must remove any and all of the rust before you paint. If you miss any of the rust the metal will continue to rust under the paint. A byproduct of rust is oxygen which promotes more rust. Once you remove all the rust from the surface you should begin painting as soon as possible. Bare metal begins to rust immediately.
