I can't see a better place to offer this query, but I'm curious as to what others think. I have looked at the Camera Gas site for a number of weeks. I think the idea is great, but the only "auctions" that I see are corporate sponsors to this website. I rarely (maybe once) have seen a bid on anything. Of course, it takes some time for something like this to catch on, but the number of classifieds on this site makes me wonder why no one is using CG? I have bought and sold a lot on eBay and believe the CG idea is great, but am curious about the lack of private activity.

Thardy, I agree that it's relatively new, but the number of private classifieds seems to be pretty healthy on this site. Yeah, it might take some time to get started. Camera GAS as a term may take some time to catch on, but camera aquisition syndrome seems to still be pretty healthy on eBay. It just seems that private sellers are not even trying the service. Of course, if posting a classified on this site is free and eBay gets in the face of millions why bother? Personally, I'd like to see these specialized auction sites develop. It's been a few months though, but few takers.

Over at PentaxForums.com, they call it LBA... When I first joined, I thought I landed in Bizarro World. What the heck is LBA and why doesn't anybody have GAS? As it turns out LBA stands for Lens Buying Addiction. I like GAS better because it is all-encompassing (even for non-photographic stuff) and also much more fun word to play with.

I made the same observations. I don't think I spotted an listing made by someone other than the RFF sponsors. I wonder why RFF people aren't using it - a banner on the website states that listings are currently free. It seems like a really good idea and I hope that it takes off.

I think someone should think of a better term than GAS. I think it's awful.

I Agree the GAS name is absolutely terrible if they wish to market to the real world out there, if it is only aimed at the RFFer's then it doesn't matter they understand😀.

My BIG concern with it is that when you go to sign up it offers no support, great if you get ripped off 😱.

Plus nowhere can I find who actually out owns and runs it, weird not even a proud 'about us' section that makes me suspect it is all a big con or a would be if it could be start up ( eBay please notice me and buy me out) and will slowly fade away.... just like GAS does 😎

I have only seen a couple of people not liking the name. There are other names we could have used and still have available but we thought GAS would be the catchiest. We will probably list the other names and let you guys vote on which one you like best.

I'm not interested in buying from the site because I don't like auctions, plain and simple.
I have bought a few things now through the classifieds here and I like the simplicity and security. If a fellow RFFer has listed something at a good price and they've posted enough that I feel familiar and "safe" with them, I'll correspond directly and usually a good deal is made for both parties.
As for selling gear, unfortunately I never do that! 🙂
