"Camera maintenance and repair" book free online

Well, not all of it is free. Seems like there are free viewing limits for each chapter.

I'm interested in hearing what the repair gurus have to say about the suggested flooding of graphite powder?

It's a preview. It's missing at least the following sections:
  • page 10 to 27 - chapters two to five: "What you will need" (tools), "Important rules & precautions", "Shortcuts: Do's and Don't's", "Design Configurations and their Characteristics"
  • 32-70 - chapters eight to fourteen: "Optical cleaning", "Cosmetic cleaning/Facelift", "General Disassembly & Repair methods", "Accessories & how to maintain them", "Testing camera functions without instruments", "Simple diagnostic tools & methods", "Test instruments you can build", "Where to find parts & supplies"
  • 75-77, 82-84, 87-90 - those three are all part of the repair instructions for one specific type of SLR, so that for all of them some key information is missing
  • 93-116 - repair notes on most manual rangefinder cameras, all electronic SLRs, electronic leaf shutter cameras and medium format cameras
  • 119-155 - "Quick Notes" on a large number of cameras, you just get a few Agfas and Alpas and Arguses and Baldas, while everything after the letter C is missing
  • 151-161 - half of the index
It's nice to have, but in practice unlikely to be helpful unless you are lucky to have a specific problem that is covered in the remaining text. The book itself is available from Amazon for $30, I don't know how much it's worth in practice.

Bummer, I paged through it a bit and it looked like most was available. At least the SRT-101 section was intact! :D

Just pop down to the local library and check it out.
I've used most of his books at one time or another.
He covers a few cameras other people don't.
He gives you enough info to make you dangerous around a camera. :)
