The serial number = 160786K; Compur-Rapid Shutter; Lens =s Kodak Ektar Anastigmat f:3,5 F=5cm No 10009704.

Appears to have been made in late 1930's No?

Any suggestions on getting copy/pdf of instructions/user manual?

Specific Questions:

I think I can figure out Range and f-stop and shuuter speed. but need a guide as to what combos to use.

What is Dial on bottom left with words:

Blende,
tiefe
nach hinten nach vorn

Thanx in advance

I'll give you a bump on this. There are several people at RFF that use the Retina. Hopefully someone will jump in with answers. You might also try Butkus.org.

Just about any film works. Colour is fastest and easiest for testing. Just follow the instructions for exposure.

the answer is very simple. Blende means "aperture" and this scale ("Tiefe" is indicating the depth of field (zone of sharpness) according to the chosen aperture. "Nach hinten" means the depth of field from the chosen distance in direction camera and "nach vorn" means depth of field from the chosen distance away from the camera. Furthermore you will find probably 2 marks on the distance-scale of the lens marking so called "snapshot-marks" allowing to pre-choose a distance that will lead to a sharp image of the object without any further manipulation. The depth of field with an Ektar or similar lens with a maximum f-stop of 3,5 is very "forgiving" in a distance-range bigger than 1,5 m (5 ft I guess).
