Camera Painting Instructions

Hi,

I already sprayed 2 more clear coats yesterday, and the finish is smoother. So I dont think I need to send it. But somehow I have the feeling that this paint is going to be somewhat "scratchable", it doesnt feel as "hard" as the finish I have on my test can. Can this be because of thickness of layers? I am going to wait a few days before putting the camera back together, and I hope the paint will harden somehow. I'll post a closeup shot later, when I am home.

having the parts elevated is definitely necessary, as I realized after trying to unstick the top. next time 😉

I'm sure the paint will dry harder. Like you said, just give it a couple of more days. If you really have the patiencs, just wait until it doesn't smell like paint anymore before you put it back together. 🙂

I can't wait to see the results. I'm thinking I'll have to re-write the instructions one day. 😛

here are some close ups. As you can see the paint has chipped in some places on the edge a little. The result of not having the parts raised while spraying, therefore probably not getting enough primer or clear finish and also getting a little stuck to the board. Its hard to see the color from these shots, its actually blueish-grey. 😎

I think you're right about not getting enough primer on the bottom of the top cover. It really shouldn't chip at all. Overall it looks like a good finish even with the chips and little bits of dirt/dust. It adds a little character and because it doesn't look 100% perfect you wont be afraid to use it. 🙂

It's good to see you didn't lose any detail in the engravings. How many coats (total) did you spary on?

It's very difficult to get an excellent finish the first or second try. It takes time learning from yours, and others mistakes. I think you did a great job lubitel. I'm sure the next one will be perfect. 😉 I can't wait to see it fully assembled.

Can't wait to assemble it either! And you are right, I was going for that "weathered"-chipped look, an original USSR working-man camera 🙂
