Camera shops stocking 120 film on the shelf?

Hi all,

I'm taking a road trip next week and wondered if anyone knew of any camera shops stocking 120 on my route.

Coming from South FL (broward/fort lauderdale) - up I-95 to Charleston, staying overnight, then heading up to Washington DC, then down into Shenandoah National Park, on down the blue ridge parkway a bit, then back through Charleston down I-95 back home.

I know ALL about Colonial Photo in Orlando, but unfortunately I'm zooming by in the middle of the night so he's not an option.

Anything in DC or Charleston?
 
My experience has been that now-a-days one should buy film, especially 120 or LF, prior to a trip to ensure being able to shoot film. Buying along the way is inconvenient at best.
 
Hell, it's enough of a problem just finding 120 film here in South Florida! Keep a small cooler in the car and bring the film with you. D.C. shouldn't be a major problem on a weekday during business hours, but otherwise about all you'll find will be 35mm color negative these days.
 
Ya... shouldn't be a problem if one wants to spend much of the day going from store to store trying to find it! 🙂
 
You will find a small selection of 120 on the shelves and in the frig at Worldwide Camera in Savannah. Their store is located about 10 miles off I-95 at exit 94.

Hey Al, IS it actually possible? I haven't been deep in Miami looking, but Broward has dried up completely. Chromatek occasionally has some 120 in the fridge, but not recently, and not in any quantity. They seem to have lots more LF. Dale Labs only keeps 35mm CN on the shelf, and not much of that. Honestly the most reliable place I could find Ilford HP5 in 120 was at of all places - wolf camera on sunrise. It's spotty at best now.

Have plenty for the trip, but with the info provided here, 2 short stops should let me pick up some insurance. 🙂

World Wide on Biscayne Blvd. at about 50th St., seems to stock 120. I bought some FP4 there a few weeks ago. It's a pain to get there because you have to enter through the rear, from that street next to the R.R. tracks, and the parking lot lacks a decent sign. It's easier to just call an 800 number and let FedEx bring it from Freestyle. Pretty soon the ONLY reason to go there will be to pick up rolls of seamless background paper and perhaps liquid chemicals.

Even the Wolf near my house closed down a few months ago.
 
Peace Camera in Raleigh NC, and Ball Photo in Asheville NC both carry 120 film. Raleigh would take you about an hour out of your way, but Asheville is on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
 
This thread is a little over six months old, however, since it has been resurected, I agree, Penn camera locations should all have 120. Traveling north up 95 (just before the 495 beltway, take the Franconia exit) there is a Penn located adjacent to (behind, near the Home Depot) the Springfield Mall. I haven't been there in about a year, but at that time they were friendly and knowledgable.

Going around the west side of the 495 beltway, Tyson's corner has a Penn store, reportedly bigger and more used gear than at Springfield. A phone book will give you other locations.

Again, on the west side of the Beltway, taking Rt#7 east (about 2-3 miles), will take you into Falls Church. Rt 7 turns into Broad St. Just before Washington St ( http://www.google.com/search?q=domi...-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1 ) is Dominion Camera. They have a good selection of 35mm, 120, and 4x5 film. They sometimes have expired 120 on sale. All there seem to know what they are doing, or will ask a more experienced employee. A good place.

They also have a good selection of used gear. They may not be as cheap as B&H or Freestyle, but hey, a brick and mortal store local to the DC area? I like it. They also do good development and printing. Of course, if you are only passing through, that isn't an advantage unless you will be coming back through.

All the Penn Cameras will have a variety of 120 and 220, there is one in Springfield - as you come up 95N where it hits the Beltway - it's near there, another in DC 800 block of E St .NW and another in Tysons Corner just off the Beltway on the west side . I've never seen them out of 120, 220 and they have all kinds of 35mm. They even keep the good stuff still properly stored in big storage coolers!

Just noticed the above thread....need coffee....

As of last Wednesday the Franico/Springfield store had the B&W 120 out on the shelf and in a bens in a cabinet, not in the film fridge.
FYI when I was there they had 0 roll of Tri-X 120 and less the 4 rolls each of HP5 and FP4 in 120.
Of course I might of just gotten there before the weekly or monthly film delivery arrived, but I'd advice giving them a call to see what the have in stock before driving over there.
