Our area had a serious flood. We suffered no damage whatsoever but the humidity is definitely up.

I have some small camera gear (Leica M and lenses) that I won't be using for a bit.

I generally keep them in a cupboard or covered with a cloth and when I'm not using them, I remove their leather Zhou cases.

I have a Pelican case as well, which I fixed up to fit all the Leicas and lenses. It's waterproof.

What are your opinions on how I should store this stuff when I'm not using it?

-Keep it in a dry clean cupboard
-OK to store in Pelican case
-OK to store in camera bags.
-Other.

If the high humidity is temporary, don't worry about it - carry on.

If the high humidity is long term, a dry box or the pelican case with silica gel packs that you routinely bake to get the water out of them.

On the other hand, bright light is good, it helps prevent fungus.

No easy solution.

I keep my gear either in Pelican cases or in camera bags. I learned a long time ago not to store anything sensitive in the basement after a lens developed a fungus problem. We don't have AC so the basement tends to get rather damp, though did put in a dehumidifier, which I think has helped somewhat. A dry box is also something that interests me, but they seem to be difficult to find in Canada...

I keep my cameras in plastic food containers I bought at Walmart. We have no humidity here in West Texas except during the monsoon months so i have no need of dessicants. However. you can buy buy cat litter by Tidy Cat in 35 lb. containers for about $12. It is made of a similar clay/silica material that absorbs moisture. Put that in the end off your wifes hosiery, tie it off and stick it in the box. (I have cats)
