I would appreciate if RFF members from Singapore could recommend a photo store for 35mm film and a mainstream store for camera accessories. Many thanks, Peter

Head down to ruby photo near peninsula plaza. They stock Ilford. Right across the road is Cathay photo, a more mainstream equipment shop. Around that area there are several used camera shops where you might spend some time as well.

When I was in Singapore, I went to Alan Photo located in Sim Lim Square. It's a mainstream store that carries camera, lenses and accessories.

When i was there, they were giving out free Nikon umbrellas due to a promotion they were having. One of the employees actually ran out of the store to find me and give me my umbrella after I'd walked out not realizing they would give me one. I still have that umbrella.

I love Sim Lim Square in Singapore. It's a hoot. There is one in Hong Kong too - same name, same concept with floor upon floor of small independent purveyors of camera and electronic equipment. Both are great fun to buy stuff you never realized you needed but now cannot live without. (Till it gets home and falls apart - maybe). Every time I am in one of these cities that is where I go just for the hell of it.

But be careful about some traders in the Singapore Sim Lim Square where some really do have a bad reputation. I am not saying that is true of Alan Photo of which I know nothing.

There's Triple D next to Sim Lim Square, they sell the usual range of C41 pro film in 35mm and 120, Ruby sticks Ilford and much more, but they have the rare Pan 100 which I so love.

Perhaps you might want to pop over to the local buy and sell forum for accessories too: clubsnap.com

You just stated my sentiments exactly! I had so much fun going to all the floors and seeing all the vendors selling all kinds of things, electronic and otherwise. I think I spent several hours at Sim Lim Square. I almost bought an electronic gizmo (I can't remember now exactly what it was) but decided against it because I figured if it broke it would be hard to get in touch with the vendor after I got home. IMHO, Sim Lim Square is a must visit for a visitor to Singapore!

Camera stores in Singapore

Just some of the more than half a dozen new and second hand camera shops in the mall on the corner of Hill and Coleman streets. Two blocks from the National Gallery of Singapore. Fresh film for sale also (but not cheap). Two shops in particular had hundreds of second hand bodies and lenses with one specialising in Leica (I counted over 40 bodies when I visited in July this year).
