In 1979, a year after the Olympus XA was introduced, Magnum photographer Erich Hartmann went on a train trip through France. As it was a holiday trip for he and his wife, he didn't want to pack along a bunch of camera gear. Instead, he took only his XA. Look at what he did with this little "Pocket Camera". For those of you who think you need a lot of expensive camera gear to make great photos, Erich's photos may be an inspiration for work with simple equipment.

My experiences with the XA: The images produced were excellent. I picked up three at Thrifts. But, unfortunately two did not last long. Seriously, I did not feel that the camera was a substitute for a Leica M with a 35mm. The amount of film needed was still the same. The images, though good, were nearly as good as Leica lenses. I am finding that the camera on my Iphone has replaced all small pocket cameras.

Thanks for this wonderful thread. Discussion of good high quality photography is an invaluable part of RFF and is what sets it apart from other gear-centric forums.
Please keep it coming.
