My only other question would be pertaining to your DNS....
A simple whois query seems to indicate registration by proxy...
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=cameragas.com
This causes some concern on my part, as I have no real idea where you are based, or who in fact owns the domain CameraGas.com, etc. Can you account for this?
I mean no offence... but it does raise a few flags for me.
Thanks in advance for the 4-1-1!

I guess, me being the type of person that I am, I just feel.. well.. "uneasy" when I'm having to register for something without knowing who/what is running the thing that I'm signing up for.
Here, when I signed up, I knew it was Jorge based on browsing and reading.
At Ebay - well - I know it's a big faceless corporation
At FaceBook - it's the CIA - hence no "personal" information of mine is posted
On CameraGas, as great an idea as it is, makes me feel uneasy not knowing who/what is behind it and because it's an auction site, i can't sit and browse to determine what is happening with my information etc.
When it comes to people offering things for "free" online (be it web space, an interactive site such as this, etc.) I become extremely suspicious because, nothing is really "free" per se.
Just my 2 cents and I do hope that the site takes off and offers some competition to Ebay but I will withold putting my information up there until I feel comfortable with the site.

Personally, I expect a certain degree of transparency with wheelings and dealings of this calibre. I know nothing of Opus 53 companies... and CameraGas is quick to point out this affiliation at its web site.
But, if a simple whois does not generate the information I seek... I am really not that inclined to take my business somewhere that is not forthcoming with the 4-1-1.
And I am sure I am not the only one who reserves this right...
Again, not trying to be offensive... I am just trying to get all the facts.

If you have nothing to hide, then why hide?
Most business dealings require a full disclosure. Real Estate, Law, Credit, and more.
The “professional” statement is one of the those that sounds good but has no meaning, no info, and is worthless.
Reputable people/ businesses value their reputation. No name, no reputation?

The answer should be obvious to you Fotch, since you don't give your
own name and address with every post or even on your own photographic equipment selling site. What are you hiding? I would say probably nothing.
The internet is a great place, but we all know there are some nuts out
there too. After some not so great experiences I was hoping an anonymous ownership of CameraGAS would go smoother.
But my enthusiasm for CameraGAS pretty much told all my friends about my
involvement anyway. CameraGAS was my idea, just like RangeFinderForum
(which I also created). I teamed up with Stephen Gandy on CameraGAS
because he liked the idea of a professional low cost camera auction site
too. We didn't think there would be much interest who owned
CameraGAS. When I shop on the internet, I hardly ever know who owns
the web site. Maybe it was naive, but this is our first auction site,
and we didn't think it would make much difference who owned the site to
users, as long as CamerGAS works well and provides a good environment
for both buyers and sellers. Would we do things differently? Yes, on
the next auction site.

There is still a couple of kinks that may need to be ironed out.
From the Seller Guidelines:
Shipping fees would not be refunded by the seller. The buyer is required to provide insurance and tracking at their expense for the return item.
It is required that the seller provides insurance and a tracking number for the returned item at their expense
Also, payment requirements that do not allow Postal Money Orders ( in which there is a high degree of security) or to charge for the additional expense of being paid through PayPal would prevent me from listing items of much value. I would be a willing buyer, though.

It's true that a portion of people would not give "ownership" a second thought... I think that it is a good idea to - at least - make that information available to the other portion of people who do require/request/appreciate that information.solaris10 said:The answer should be obvious to you Fotch, since you don't give your

I just placed 3 ads in Cameragas. Stop by.
You can update your signature with a link to your auctions like so. It's in my signature.
"www.cameragas.com/auctionsearch.php?posted=1&keywords=YOURUSERNAMEHE RE&results=2&sortby=1&usersearchok=Search"

I didn't notice until after registering that the "Privacy Policy" is a blank page. Also lacking is a "contact" listing. The same discepency I found in the Seller Guidelines re: returns, is in the "Terms & Conditions". Any chance these things will be rectified ?

So - does this indicate that the classifieds on RFF will eventually cease to exist?

Interesting point. However, there is a difference. First, I am not a camera store or an online camera business in any form or fashion. Rather, I am a private seller who uses the internet and pictures to communicate with.
At my site, I do have my phone number and my first name. A person could do a domain name check and find my last name and address.
So, exactly, what am I hiding?
For personal security reasons, I don’t have personal data there that is easy to harvest, example, email address is not clickable, because it’s a photo. As stated, without much effort, without even calling me, you can find out that info.
Also, I don’t ask anyone to register or give up info to me. Of course, those who have purchase from my private collection do tell me who they are, address, etc., and do know who I am before any business is transacted.
From what you stated, it sounds positive, and helps minimize or removes doubts or concerns about dealing with you. I don’t think you are harmed in any way.
May I also add, Good Luck?

Oh, I forgot to add, I also have my picture (Avatar) shown and approximate location, SE. Wi.

I understand about "hiding". I wouldn't want my real address out there. Who wants to tell burglars where to find cameras? I use a PO Box address where i can.
Also when I get contractors here, to fix the air cond (like this morning), I take precautions and put stuff out of sight. Contractors talk shop at the pub... where the wrong people could overhear chat about "the house I fixed that has loads of camera stuff..."

Excellent. Thank you.
Now, about that return policy- who pays return shipping?
Buyer pays for return shipping EXCEPT when the purchased item is DOA.

No plans for that. GAS is an important malady at RFF. Time will tell as the sites change and evolve.
