Cameras and television - how close is too close?

Days ago I started to move from box-on-floor storage concept to aesthetically more appealing cabinet. Suddenly I realized that in this case TV set (CRT style, with all the magnetic stuff) is above-on right from cameras....about 70-75cm or about 2.5ft.

So I wonder if this is too close. TV box is not directly above, it's shifted on side if this matters, though you see - they are no at opposite walls which definitely would make me feeling safe.

Mainly I'm worried about cameras with electrics in belly, like fully electronic SLR and Yashi' Electros. Not sure about fully mechanical things, though believe that natural magnetism of Earth is all they need.

Am I paranoid or I'm on right track?

So most of you seem to have separate room for cameras, eh?

Most of camera manuals warn kind of "Do not store your camera near a television, radio or other magnetic substance". What is meant by close? 1ft, 5ft or what? Really don't want to get cameras magnetized.

To get your camera (or parts of it) magnetized, you would have to to bring it close to the high-voltage transformer of a CRT-TV. Even then it is quite impossible to harm your camera because the metal parts are mostly alloys made from metals that can't be magnetized.

The only source of magnetisation I can think of around a t.v. or radio would be the permanent magnets found in the loudspeaker. It would have to be stored quite close <1foot/200mm to affect a camera shutter or aperture blades by magnetisation. Radio frequency emission of a t.v could have an affect on some early sensitive integrated circuits.
So store camera away from stereo speakers for example, where the magnetic field is high. Main one to think about.

What is meant is that analog meters and other mechanical or electronic solenoid parts (shutters), etc. can be made inaccurate from strong or long term weak magnetic fields.

It is best to keep items of interest at least three feet (one meter) away from electronic or passive devices that continually produce magnetic fields.

This is an IEEE and SMPTE recommended standard from decades ago.

In other words... don't store your Konica Auto S2, Nikon EL, etc. on top of a CRT TV set, audio amplifier, computer, audio speaker or any unshielded device that use AC or DC current as a continuous source of power. Keep in mind even though your devices are turned off... they are still energized.

Any long term storage placement is an invitation for disaster. Use common sense. Better safe than sorry. Your call.

Right, meters and coils is what I were meaning originally, sorry didn't formulate it clearly.

Even if this probably is overkill by today's standards, this at least is some guide. 3ft/1m sound reasonable.
So now I have problem rearraging whole storage.

Perfect solution would be to sell off everything, leaving bag, camera and lens, maybe two 🙂
