Cameras and watches.

Oh man! I've wanted an Amphibia for a long time as well! Nice choice of dial, there is a dizzying array but I'm quite partial to the black diver, as well as the teal one. Nice bezel! I actually use my bezel surprisingly often.
Let me share few tips for your research: No-date, the date mechanism is still a pain.
Case options, each with its own allure. The 420 showcases an iconic circular design, while the 960 boasts an integrated bracelet. However, my personal favorite is the 670, which relates to the historical Albatros case.

I must say that the distinction between Kom and Amphibia is now very subtle. Probably, I lean towards the vintage Kom and modern Amphibia.
Yes! the Z-3M features Peak Design anchors, as they are essential for using cameras.

I am using/wearing a thin watch by Longines. I have a few other watches, but I can only wear one at a time. My second watch is by Gucci. I still have a Ginsbomatic watch that I won as a Sophomore for having a good science project in College. The watch was given to me by the Minister of Higher Education. The watch does not work well anymore. I tried having it fixed by a jeweler store her

Watches are less needed in the age of iPhones, but they are special.
We could apply the same argument to cameras. The point is, while smartphones are flexible devices that combine multiple sensors and computational power in a portable size, the experience of using various applications, such as the camera, on a smartphone is far from that of using an analog physical tool.

Ah, the plague of smart devices! I hate them! But we use them out of necessity.

Nothing beats the experience of analog… imho, the simple life is how I will spend my remaining days, at least as much as I can make it happen.

Vinyl records, fly fishing, film cameras, classic/vintage cars/ acoustic guitars, and yes many other ways to avoid smart devices and the evil screen! 😂

Sunny 16 rules most of the time here but I do a lot of work with digital medium format. Different horses for different courses. 👍

So, I am not a purist, of course because it is impossible and not really a good idea in my mind. We depend on high end technology in medical devices, for our very lives!

There is always a balance in life I search for. Sometimes I find it for a fleeting moment. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Since I can never own a Rolex, my quest for a nice watch is an ongoing joy… I enjoy the experience! I love the watches posted here, and short of a smart watch, I would be happy with a mechanical or an automatic watch. Currently I am still using my old Seiko gold watch. Classic in its own way and remarkably reliable. Love it but I would still enjoy a new Seiko. Or many others. 😎

Plus ONE.....except the quote
So, I am not a purist, ( I think I like to say I am weird and extra special and don't belong to the crowd )

I know we are in many many bubbles of "Matrix" . I am too a analogue ninja. Not believing much of SO CALLED TECHINOLOGY AND SMART GRIDS. I believe in true science and not the Fake Pseudoscience or extreme science.
But I love many things done manually with out computers or soft ware.

EX. Like to live without data or living the life without APP.
By the way I have a phone. it only receives calls and not doing anything else. It is hardly a phone for occasional communication. Nothing else. 😀

Simple things tend to last longer… so maybe a solar watch is not in my future.

My 1956 manual Smith-Corona Super Silent typewriter earns its keep around here… it’s amazing how many uses I find for it, like song lyrics and short story writing…and it is a joy to use while keeping my fingers exercised!😃

I have Nikon sunglasses, but I have not seen any Nikon watches :)

My glasses are vintage. Got them from ebay years ago.

edited: there actually exist Nikon watches!

It shouldn't be allowed to tempt people like this, look what I just ordered. 😊

hi there, I just wanted to share a quick observation with you. It seems that the dial on your watch might be a re-print, and the second hand might not be from Vostok. I don't mean to dampen your excitement, but I thought it would be helpful to point out these details.

Here how that reference should look like

I think you're right, as far as I can see all three hands are different. I have right of return and I will contact the seller. Thank you!

eBay seller "fialochka2016" seems to specialize in selling dials, hands and cases for Soviet wristwatches, including that cool green-on-white design.

But as far as determining what's authentic USSR-era goods, that's not always so straightforward! If we look at Soviet cameras, we see countless small and not-so-small variations, sometimes even older-style parts on newer-production cameras. Paint colors and body coverings could vary too. The simplest explanation I could think of was that the factories needed to meet their production quotas regardless of shortages of parts and supplies, and substitutions were employed as needed.

Checking on ebay I found 5 watches of this particular model with the same bezel as the one I've ordered. The sellers are from Belarus, Ukraine, Australia, UK and the US. There are some variants of the hands, mostly the third (seconds). I wonder if watchmakers have had these bezels made for replacement, but would not put the Vostok logo on it in fear of being sued. Anyway I have not spent a lot of money on it, there are Amphibians on ebay that cost eight times as much. Next time I'll get a KGB model. 😊

One of my Orient Star watches

It works well, keeps time better than most watches that I own.

All the best,
Mike
