not a fan of people who buy panasonic leica badged camera's as leicas.
unfortunately 95 percent of leica owners are brand snobs.
When all my friends were buying dslrs like mark i and selling it for less than half the price every 2 years, i was researching what would be the perfect kit for me.
So i saved up all , went camera-less until the age of 20 and bought a Leica MP and 50mm summilux and a 35mm 1.4 nokton for backup.
i feel fulfilled and honestly i can see my laptop , tv , car everything getting replaced but I feel like this whole kit is a keeper.
so while my friends are loosing their money on dslrs i am now saving up for a noctilux
Not at all judgmental are we?

Leica M3 + 50/2 DR (Dad's camera)
Kodak Pocket Instamatic
Polaroid SX-70 (Dad's camera)
Ricoh KR-5 Super (My first "real" camera; K-mount with absolutely superb 50/2; still have & use as a rain camera; like it so much I've considered getting another but the one I have is unkillable)
Nikon FE-2 (first of several; these are long-time favorites; with MD12, various TTL flashes etc.)
Nikon FM-2 (sold, along with the 180/2.8 ED for tuition; kept the FE-2s)
Note: the KR-5, FE-2s, and FM-2 are the only cameras I've used to earn money. I also assisted in a commercial studio where I learned to use and learned to dislike Hassys and 4x5 gear.
Nikon FA (sold because I liked it less than any 35mm camera I've ever used)
Nikkormat FT-2 (Mom's camera; needs work but not valuable enough to merit it)
Leica M6 <--- "Full Circle"
(Ricoh GR-1, Yashica T5, MjuII, etc.; various Olympus DSLRs)
Fuji X-Pro1<---Love. It.
Minolta CLE<---Might be the best of all of 'em: small; light; cheap; silicon photodiode metering; modern batteries; takes M lenses; almost all salient features of my beloved FE2s, including TTL flash. Brilliant little camera and I should have got a couple of them years ago.

Started with a gifted Kodak something??? It was very thin. I loved it. Bought my first camera at 17. A Canon AE-1. Used it until afew years ago when I was gifted an M9.
Reading all the progression lists here makes me feel like I have missed out on a lot. For years I was more than happy with Canon and looked no further than their lens catalogues. Did not feel the need for more than one camera. Then I found RFF.....

Still working my way up to an M, though after holding an M3 I have no doubt it will happen sooner rather than later.
Roughly in this order:
- Canon Rebel 2000: I think I put maybe a roll through this in the span of two years. Sold.
- Canon Rebel XT: Bought years later when I decided to get back into photography. Sold.
- Pentax K10D: Really nice camera. Abysmal selection of lenses. Sold.
- Pentax ME: Great camera, still have it. Really compact!
- Mamiya 645 1000s: Loved shooting this, but it was too bulky so it went. Sold.
- Nikon D200: Love this camera, still have it. Really fed up with the bulk for street shooting though.
- Yashica Electro 35 GSN: Bought this to see how a rangefinder worked. Nice little camera but it feels terrible in my hands. Just can't get used to it. Going to sell.
- Zenit 12XP: Someone gave me this camera. It's a brick and I have no plans to use it, but I can't sell it since it was a gift >:|
- Zorki 6: Absolutely perfect form factor. Love it. Got it just this past week, but the shutter ribbon broke. Awaiting replacement, but expect to use this until I get my M!
- FED-2: Awaiting delivery on this one. Picked it up on eBay because it was $17 and I wanted to see how a FED looked. Have high hopes for a nice body
- [This space reserved for my future M and all the gushing I'll do about it

Yes, here's a picture from cameraquest.com
http://www.cameraquest.com/lm3blk.htm
Mine was a chrome M3 but I had a buddy who was a leica repair person who went back to the factory at least once a year and picked up parts and I gave him both of my M3's in I think 74 and had them rebuilt in the factory and had one turned into black. They used to do that, they both came back in sealed plastic bags looking like NEW. I was so afraid to damage the Black M3 I did not use it that much and then someone made me a offer I though was crazy, well it was for that year. Nothing like what it would be worth now, I learned my lesson and that was the last Leica lens or body I sold.

Most of these have since been sold, but here's my path, and reasoning behind the purchases. I'll limit myself to small formats, otherwise this could get really long:
(really long time ago) Exakta SLR - given to me by a family friend, used it until the shutter quit working
(various random P&S cameras for years, as I was a kid and didn't have the money for serious photography)
Nikon D40 - bought after having a baby
Nikon N6006 - because film seemed like fun and I could use the same lenses
Nikon N90 - door latch on N6006 broke
Yashica GSN - wanted to try a RF. Sold, but I ended up buying another.
Nikon F3 - found at a garage sale
Kiev 4 - liked the GSN, but wanted to get into an RF system
Voigtlander Bessa R - wanted an RF system with framelines and no light leaks. Essentially traded the F3 for it.
Leica M5 - wanted an RF with a wider base, got a great deal on this
Canon 7 - bought as a cheaper backup body after having sold the Bessa R
Leica M2 - M5 rangefinder patch was going bad, missed not being able to use my M lenses
Contax I - found at an antique store, but sold because it was a PITA to use.
Leica MP - M2/lenses were stolen, insurance decided that an MP was a direct replacement!
Of these, I still have the Kiev, another GSN, the N90 and M5, with the MP on its way.

I took the short route:
1995 Canon Rebel --> in 2005 got an M6 Classic, sold in 2010 for an M8, and sold the M8 in 2011 for an M9P.
Now I lost my job, have to sell the M9P.
Maybe I will make a full circle and go back to the Rebel, one of the best selling film SLRs of all time.

It´s been a long journey, but here it goes:
Chronological order, starting at the tender age of 11:
GAF 100XF 126 cartridge box camera
Minolta Autopak 700 and Kodak Signet 35 (borrowed from grandfather)
Petri FA-1 (borrowed from father)
Yashica MG-1 (Christmas gift from parents. First serious camera I could call my own)
Canon AE-1
Canon AE-1 Program
Canon T90
Canon EOS Elan IIe
Canon EOS IX
Contax G1 and G2
And then came digital:
Canon Digital Rebel
Canon EOS 20D
Canon EOS 50D
Canon Rebel T1i
Olympus E-P1
Lumix G2
Lumix G3
Lumix GF-3
And a detour back to film:
Voigtlander Bessa R2a
Leica M6TTL
And finally,
Leica M9P
It's been a long but pleasurable journey. 35 years, though.
Cheers,
Antonio

Nice one, lets see :
- Canon T70
- Nikon F80
then digital :
- Olympus god knows what, as a 1mp camera
saved lots of money and eat a lot of bread for ages for :
- Fuji S2 PRO
- Nikon D100
- Nikon D1x
- Nikon D2h
thought that changed brands would improve my photography ( hey you have to make these mistakes to know for a fact they dont, but then again, I'm sutbborn and had to see for myself )
- Canon 1D
- Canon 1Ds Mark I
Then thought "oh well, Nikon ergonomics are super, thats why my photos were fantastic - they werent )
- Nikon D2x
then started to leave my SLR at home since I needed a mule to carry the arsenal of AF-S lenses I had. Mules arent very pratical and wife dont like them at night, so I discovered by accident, in a shop a Leica. traded pratically all my SLR stuff for :
- Leica M7 + 3 Leica lenses
unfortunatly I had my house robbed and took it, with the insurance money I could buy my dream Leica :
- Leica MP
then :
- Leica M8
- Leica MP Anthracite Japan edition
and currently my main camera (sold the others ) :
Leica M9
sold my SLR stuff to fund few exotic lens ( Noctilux 0.95, Elmarit 24mm, WATE ) and Leica is my only camera to the date ( apart from the D1x and D2h that I kept and still shoot occasionaly for a website - their low resolution is a bonus, since its for web usage and dont need more than 800x600 ).

Nikon F2 photomic chrome, just because it's an early F2. All other M/F Nikons sold as I can't focus them easily.
Leicaflex SL, easily the best focusing SLR I've used
Leica M2, part of a set that has been together since '62 from new so I'll never sell it
Leica MP, no reason for getting this again and not that interested in it. Well I say no reason but I didn't want to admit that I couldn't focus M's well anymore so thought I'd try again!
Pentax K2, bought from the forum, serviced by Eric H, love this camera
NIKON F5, the best 35mm camera IMHO, EVER made

Most used for film,

Most used for digital
NIKON D700
I started with SLR's, got into RF and then worked out that SLR's suit me and my eyes better now. Sometimes one has to admit when something isn't working anymore. Seems like a long list but I like to try stuff and make my own mind up rather than reading reviews plus most are cheap to get hold of. Trying out this lot actually didn't cost that much as I bought and sold in rotation. Buy them, try them and then sell what doesn't suit me.
