Cameras you regret selling or not buying?

I have both a Widelux f7 and two Horizon 202"s.

The Horizons are lovely until you take a shot and hear the screws and washers rattle loose inside the Russian jewel, then hang up on the next shot.

Not a fan of Russian hardware for reasons of experience.

My experience is the opposite of yours.
My F6 ground to a halt while I was waiting in a camera repair shop picking up a serviced Minolta.
F7 became bandy but even before that the Horizons took better pics.
at 1/10th of the cost.

About once every three years I go thru a week regretting selling a Rolleiflex 2.8D, and even email the guy I sold it to, seeing if he wants to sell it back, but then it passes and I'm glad I sold it.

Only other camera I wish I could have back was a Canon F-1n with Motor Drive MF, 28mm, 50mm, 100mm kit that I used for my first photojournalism job. Traded it all in on a Nikon N90S and AF lenses in 1996. Would like to have that back for sentimental reasons.

Regret selling

Leica M2 - Had the M2-R and a black repaint button version, sold it both times. Just was not satisfied with the 35mm slide film size.

Pentax 67 - had a mint one in perfect condition. what a beast.

I guess the one camera I regret selling was a black 64 plain prism Nikon F. Worn, smooth; must've belonged to a photojournalist, and the old, non-ai Nikkors are great on B&W film. ...

The saving grace is that if you're patient, black paint Nikon F with eye level prisms come up for sale for not much cash, compared to black paint M2 & M3 in the high 4 figure to 5 figures...

I had it completely overhauled by Frank Marshman, even the light meter worked. Plus, if you look closely at that photo you’ll see a tiny lens in the lower right - that was a 28mm f/8. They never made one for this camera, so it was likely adapted to fit this camera. Probably the only one around. The whole kit went to a collector in South Korea.

For me, it was worth the premium price. It's such a good camera I can often just carry it and not worry about carrying anything else for casual shooting

That`s the problem. It was tough getting robbed for my Xs. $1000 down the drain. I`m not sure I`m ready to repeat that scenario which is why a used Xs might make it easier for me to swallow. I like it a lot still. Cellphones are way bigger targets than real cameras here in Santiago. There is a huge market for cellphones.

I regret the Nikon F70 I bought in order to have an AF SLR. I had a fully functional Contax 139 at the time . Now 23 years later I’ve long since abandoned the F70 but use the Contax a great deal. The F70 has possibly the worse user interface I’ve ever experienced. What was I thinking.....

I have a soft spot for the F70, I did like it a lot but stopped using it when I got the F90x. Having used cameras like the dynax 9xi, the user interface of the F70 was great 🙂

I regret getting Olympus Mju ii. I bought one from ebay when they were selling for pence, and I thought it would be great for people pics. I bought 2 more and both those had faults. My style involves low light sometimes and the inability of the multi beam autofocus to lock reliably onto the point of interest is a huge downfall. I took one to a friends wedding and although it metered faultlessly, it had way more auto focusssing misses than hits. I would have done better with a zone focus camera. I now use Mju I x2 and have not had a similar problem. It is just a huge shame that the brilliant f2.8 lens in the Mju ii is let down by the rest of it

I regret selling my Contax T2. Bought it brand new when I was choosing between that and a Leica Minilux. I preferred the viewfinder on the Contax. Took great pictures too. A few years later, bought another one. A few years later, sold it. So I realise that I should never have sold it, let alone selling another! Now they are too expensive for me to put things right.
I also regret selling my Leica Minilux, Leica CM, Minolta TC-1, Ricoh GR1v, Contax T3(two of them!). My regret is selling them years ago when the prices were around £250($300) each and how much they go for now!!!

When I was 14 I traded my Baby Rollei for a Vivitar 135mm lens (for my Zeiss Icarex 35S TM). At the time Kodak had discontinued 127 film. Live and learn.

About 15 years ago I had a Canon 7 and loved the body, but I didn't use it a whole lot since obviously M mount lenses don't fit on it, so I sold it. I always regretted it since I found the camera to be so nice to use. Fast forward to a year or so ago and I decided to remedy the situation so I bought another one. Super clean and it happened to have a 50mm 1.4 attached to it that was also ridiculously clean. It worked out though since Canon 7s have gone down in price in those 15 years. I got a better one with a lens for only a few bucks more than the original one. Not bad.

I regret not buying an A La Carte Leica back when they were released. I thought at the time that they were stupidly expensive. Well, now new Leicas aren't stupidly expensive, they are obscenely expensive. Oh well. Maybe one of these days Leica will realize what a photographic genius I am and give me one. No? Oh well. Lol. Leica lenses are the same now too. Just way too expensive. I remember when Noctilux were around $1000, and that wasn't too long ago. I paid $200 for a beat up 35mm Summicron, beat it up some more, then sold it for $400 a few years back. Leica lens prices are nuts now. I just hope Leica doesn't decide to raise the price of the MP and the MA to like 8 grand. Then the price of every body will be obscene. Happened to the M6 and the M7. IIRC 20 or so years ago M6s were only around $1200 brand new.

I also regret not buying a Zeiss Ikon when they were new. They are way overpriced now. Though I am glad I bought a Hexar RF instead. Great underrated camera with those Titanium covers. Really is durable and reliable. I should probably buy another one since they are still relatively cheap, although the price is going up on them. I probably should not keep saying they are good cameras on the internet. Lol.

The only Leica I’ve regretted selling, and I’ve owned them all M2 thru M7, was the M4. Such a perfect camera. I currently shoot with a M2, which is pretty close to a perfect camera.

Too many to name, M3, Nikon F, etc. But glad with what I have Leica M-A, Leica M-P 240 and a Nikon FE. Still have many:bang: more but those stand out.
