My "First" Leica

.................a matching numbers 1939 IIIa w/ a "Uncoated" f2/50mm Summitar......she was a beauty, like new and worked almost as smooth as one of my IIIC K`s does now, never shot a bad photo with her, and it was her that got me all hooked on Leitz!!!! ~ Many many years ago.....I regret selling her, but I still have my "First" M Leica though, my 87' M6 😀

I've never been able to sell any camera or lens, or even an accessory!

But I have had plenty of stuff stolen, borrowed and not brought back, given away, lost, broken or worn out. In 1985, my studio was burglarized, and two camera systems were stolen and never recovered. A Canon A1 with their 16mm fisheye, their premium 50mm and the Sigma 21-35. And an original Mamiya 645 with the 35mm, 80mm, 220mm and 500mm.

I miss the Canon with the 21-35 (maybe not perfect by today's standards, but I used it like there was no tomorrow (and apparently there wasn't!) And I miss the Mamiya with it's PD prism and the 35mm. I hope the recipients of those cameras are as thrilled by them as I was!

Of course now, I once again have exactly the cameras and lenses that I want. But I still think about those long lost cameras from time to time.

The only camera I have ever sold was a Rollei 35. You know, this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollei_35 I deeply regret it. Not the least because I sold it all too cheaply, - to a guy who indeed understood it's value. I brought this camera with me just everywhere. Whenever I look through old negatives it strikes me how good this Rollei was. The lens produced tack sharp images with high contrast. I took a lot of pictures with it through close to 20 years. Much due to it's compactness and simplicity of use.

Selling this camera made me wary of selling any of my other cameras.

Oh, yes! The Sigma 21-35 is a great lens! I just have sold my copy and indeed I start to miss it already!
