Can anyone confidently say they've bought their last camera?

No way! I recently argued in another thread that I think digital upgrade rates will slow down, but I do not think they will stop and I'm sure one day I will want to upgrade my 7D.

Meanwhile, with so many wonderful film cameras to try for such low prices, how can we resist? Witness my recent foray into OM's and see that I am nowhere near done.

Cheers,
Rob

I had an M7 + 35 cron ASPH. Thought I had it finally figured out, was my only camera for nearly two years, wasn't tempted by anything else. Until I had an accident and decided to buy a backup, it all went downhill from there :bang:

I doubt i'll ever say that. I don't consider myself a 'collector', but I do seem to have a big collection of old cameras that grows sometimes (bought a Leica IIIf last weekend to add to the pile). They all work and i use them all on occasion though. I like having a bunch of old cameras on my shelf, it makes for nice apartment scenery.

I am 108 years old. I lived rice and beans for 13 years and with the remaining of my savings bought the latest $$$ top digital. Had to sell a kidney for the lens. I can say with certainty that I am done.

With every camera that I buy, I delude myself into thinking that this will meet all of needs and that this one will really be my last camera purchase. Maybe next time.

With me, it's usually only a matter of 'is this the best camera in this format/line/style?' And if not, do I need one? Sometimes a lower version model will suffice for what I want to do photographically, but then I get a hankering for a sharper lens, or interchangability, or ease of use.

I used to have something in every format from 16mm, to 4x5. Since the death of some of the old formats now means I don't need to be shooting everything on the earth, it has freed me up to concentrate on the more important models I'd like to own. But then I'll find something in a junk shop, and I just can't resist it. Like the little tlr I found that looks like it takes 828 film. It's a dead ender, but will look neat on the shelf.

Zorkis, Leicas, sufficient German & Russian glass and a Canon G11 digital / light meter - all of which I enjoy and, as of yet, have not gotten bored with. Maybe an M down the road, but my current finances can't justify it anytime soon and I'm not so heartbroken about it.

So I think I can confidently say - Keith isn't done.
