can i use 50 Elmar and 50 Summitar??

Can i mount these collapsible older 50 Elmar and Summitar to a R-D1?

I use the Elmar on my R-d1 without any problems, it is such a good lens. I can't comment on the Summitar.

i have the Leitz Elmar 5cm f3.5.. and you collaspe your lens into the R-D1 without any issues?

I use the Elmar on my R-d1 without any problems, it is such a good lens. I can't comment on the Summitar.

do you know if R-D1 and R-D1s have the same dims...

i have the Summitar 5cm f2.

looks like the summitar is about 1.4" shorter then the Elmar when collasped, so the summitar should fit, but just wanted to be 100% sure.

I have the Elmar-M 50/2.8 and it collapsed perfectly into the R-D1 and I am pretty sure the R-D1 and the R-D1s are the same bodies only with different firmware.

I can't show any sample pictures, I am at work but I used it a lot last week end on trip on an island arround Hong Kong and it gave me very good results.

opps. 1/4" (quarter inch) shorter in length.

i tested the summitar and works fine, but i am hesistant to try the Elmar as it looks very close.. just not sure.. anyone have a Elmar 5cm f3.5 on R-D1?

Yes, R-D1s and R-D1 are exactly the same bodies.

As long as the lens does not protrude into the body more than 20.5mm it is safe to use with the R-D1/1s. Just measure the distance from the flange to the extreme back of the lens when collapsed.

All Elmar 50's tubes have not the same physical length. The one with my M6J (1996) for instance is a bit longer than both my 2004 and 1962 versions.
Also some Elmar's tube may wobble more or less with use and hit the roller cam of the rangefinder which is very close as you can see on this pic.

Then if you get the feeling that the tube touches something when you collapse the lens it is most probably the roller cam.
Given the focussing issues some R-D1's do have, my best advice is to refrain from collapsing the lens on the body or, at least, to put a tape or anything else on the tube to reduce wobble but such a protection won't prevent the tube to hit the roller cam if the latter is not perfectly straight or if the tube wobbles to a critical extent anyway.
