Can I use a Leica SF 20 Flash on My M8????

Hello Folks!

Need to know if anyone out there has had any experience using a LEICA SF 20 Flash on a M8 digital body?

I use Flash rarely, but when I do, I mostly use it as in Blk N' Wht work
(as below) ~ shot at like 2am in the morning (on Sony/Zeiss equipment)



For that "cheap" trashy 1950`s look....or fill flash sometimes when shooting inside car interiors or at the beach.

I`m using my M8 now daily and I really do need that flash capability again (my old Sony units had it Kaputt!) and I don`t or can`t afford to buy the 24D or 58 right now or really feel I need or want that big of a Flash on the M8 anyway, the SF20 is compact and well, will it work?????

Okie Dookie.....well not to sound stupid, but that`s just like switching on like what A mode and take a meter reading and or guess distances and f-stop?? LOL!!!!!

I guess most of the time it will be indoors or very very late at night like in my top photo.....

Yes, Tom, you simply turn it on, slide the selector to A and then use your brain matter to determine the aperture. The numbers on the LCD are suggested apertures (in case you buy one and wonder).

With the 1/50th synch speed of all Leica bodies... I'm sure you'll get the look you're looking for.

PS & Edit: It just occurred to me that your M8 manual should say whether you can use the SF-20 safely on the camera. I'm sure you can; it's for the M6TTL and M7 and R bodies as well.

The SF20 works fine in A mode. Not too hard to set it up for correct exposure. Hasn't hurt my M8.
I use a tilt adapter in the hot shoe to give ceiling bounce if I want to.
I also use a separate flash bracket to hold the flash out the side for less redeye.... but it sure ain't stealth mode.

If you want some off camera flash, you can use the Nikon TTL cords with the M8 and SF20, works great.
