Can Nikon SB-24 flash be used in TTL with G2?

Does anyone know if this Nikon flash can be used in TTL mode with a G2? If so, I would use it with an SC-17 off camera cord and a bracket to put it above lens axis for roving shots at an anniversary party. By manually zooming the flash head it would almost be a perfect fit for my 28, 35, 45 and 90 lenses.

I'm not sure, even if the pins match those of the camera, I doubt the protocols used to controll the flash are the same.

Metz has different SCA adapters for Nikon and Contax so I think they are very different.

I don't think so, the Nikon has 4 contact points compared to 3 for the Contax.
I would try it without film in the camera, if the SB-24 is set to TTL and doesn't have the proper connection, the display would probably blink and the flash would not fire.
I think you can use the combo on Auto flash setting.
Do it at your risk, it may cause problems.

I assure you that it will not work.

You can use the flash in manual mode, or flash-controlled automatic mode, but definitely not TTL.

If you want to use this flash in TTL mode, you need a Nikon camera that supports TTL.

In fact, not only does the camera have to support TTL mode but it also has to come from the same era as the SB-24 (Nikon F-801 etc), which is now unfortunately quite a long time ago. As far as I know, the SB-24 can only be used flash (not camera) controlled automatic or manual with anything in the current Nikon range. I wish that wasn't the case!!

It's not quite that bad, if you shoot film Nikons.

The SB-24 will support simple TTL with any TTL body (FG or newer), up to and including the F6. However, Nikon digital cameras use a different TTL system so the SB-24 can't be used in TTL mode with them.

The SB-24 won't support D-TTL (TTL with distance calculations provided by the lens focus distance), but otherwise will work with any modern film Nikon.

I use the SB-22 and SB-15 on modern Nikons (F100 e.g.) and have good results.
