Well, since you mentioned it as an option you were considering, posters will comment on it. I'm not saying the 5D is a bad camera, far from it. But there are other options to be had, much depending on your style and needs.

5d is the best value camera on the market bar NONE if it's no BS image quality you're looking for. It's IQ is still on par with the d700 - slightly worse at high ISO shooting (can still shoot iso 6400 pretty easy) but higher detail in the files (thinner AA filter). It still shoots like a new camera, just without live view and video modes.

Well that is pretty reassuring as I care about neither live view nor video mode...those are kind of consumer gimmicks really.
