Can you identify these cameras?

I've just changed my avatar to one of Rodchenko himself. There are a few photos of him with his camera(s), but I don't know what they are. I'll post some photos here for the experts to advise. I suspect an early Contax in photos one and three, but perhaps a Leica in the second? :

1st one looks like a Leica I (A), as evidenced by the 'hockey stick', 2nd one could be a II or a III/IIIa with a VIDOM finder and a 73/1.9 Hektor lens. Third one is probably a I, II or a III.

* Leica 1A in picture one. The 'hockey stick' infinity lock gives it away.

* Leica III or IIIa in picture two. The diopter on the RF window sticks out and I can see a slow speed dial on the front, just over the lens. Can't be a Leica II, they had no strap lugs and no diopter, IIIb had a diopter lever under the rewind knob.

* picture three impossible to tell for me.


EDIT: I agree on the VIDOM finder and the Hektor 1.9/73mm in picture two.

Yeah, you might be right about that -- the 73 Hektor looks really close to it though.

Because I've always liked his work, and I couldn't think of anything else to use as a username when I registered. Besides, I don't think he's as well known as he should be, so a bit more publicity wouldn't be a bad thing.

And it's only just occurred to me to use a pic of AR as an avatar. It was my G.Zuiko lens before.

There was a big exhibition of Rodchenko stuff at the Hayward Gallery in London a couple of years ago. It was fascinating, although a lot of the prints were disappointing in the flesh as the style -- albumen prints, quite low contrast and 'soft' -- didn't match how I've often seen them in reproduction. The montages and collages were really interesting, as they had a lot of the originals, and they were much smaller than I was expecting. Smaller by far than you often see them printed.

Yes, i managed to get to that exhibition. I was fascinated by the range of material, but I wish there had been more.

Well, I live in Finland. The russian photographers were exhibited all over the place here. The taking of that name would be the same as if a scientist would take the name: "Albert Einstein"
