OK , here's one from left field: one of my hobbies is collecting japanese kaiju (giant monster) movies. I recently picked up a copy of the orginal US version of Gammera the Invincible and there is a scene there where a japanese photog is shown with his rangefinder camera. It looks like a Nikon to me but it is hard to tell and the screen capture isn't the best in the world.

It does not look like a Nikon to me- the top deck does not appear to be flat, but appears to have the rangefinder mechanism in an elevated box similar to screw-mount leicas.

I don't know what that camera is, but if you want a treasure trove of early Japanese cameras, get the DVD of "Rodan".

Also check out "Godzilla vs. The Thing (Mothra)". The female photojournalist in the film shoots with a variety of cameras. I am almost sure one looked like an SP. She also shot with an early SLR (probably a Topcon) and also a Grafflex. Pretty cool movie too! 🙂

Since the left (our left, his right) window looks circular, and there are only 2 windows, I'll hazard a guess that it's an early Canon LTM. The lens looks far too long for a 50, maybe an 85/1.5?

I don't believe that Fred is right in his "there is no doubt that it is a Kallo," due to the aforementioned circular RF window. And basing the camera due to the film's release date really isn't accurate, as surely cameras other than the Kallo existed in 1966, no?

Additionally, it is clear that there are "steps" to the top plate of the camera in question much like the Leica LTM cameras. The slow shutter speed dial is also visible (slightly obscured by the lens).

Here's a Canon LTM for reference:

Looks like a Canon RF with a black barreled f1.8 85mm? - (it`s not long enough to be a 100mm) and half of the camera seems to be covered by his glove - (take notice)..........well, that`s my guess 🙂

Yeah that "Mothra" movie is a good one, that gals got a few cameras around her neck throughout the movie, too funny 😀..........I`ve always wanted to do a 1950`s early 60`s Japanese Monster Movie pinup shoot with a Japanese American model and some early Canon and Nikkor gear, but the model is rarer than the cameras here in Florida, I would have a bunch of gals to work with on the West coast or NYC, but sadly it`s been a challenge to find a suitable model here

Looks like my Canon IIf, although most in the series look similar. It has a combined VF/RF.

Lens looks long, like an older all-chrome 13.5cm F3.5 or F4.
