Can you identify this camera?

Awhile ago, I saw an indie flick entitled "The Photographer." I believe it was released sometime in 2000.

In the film, the lead character picks up 'a classic antique camera' - for some time, I thought it looked to be a Leica I/II/III, but upon a recent closer inspection, I don't think it is.

The two photos below are about the clearest grabs I could find... does anyone have any idea what camera is shown?

I had an inexpensive "Soligar" branded camera that looked something like that. It was fashioned after a Leica, but was a scale-focus, between the lens shutter camera. Made in Japan, 1950s vintage. Several such cameras appeared around the same time, about the same features and quality as a Kodak Pony.

Those are some pretty chunky gloves to be shooting with!

I´m unable to tell exactly which camera is the one pictured in the photos. But, what I´m sure is that it isn´t a Leica of any model.
It looks close to a Canon IV but I don´t think it is either...

Its a Halina 35x, they were sold in the UK by the Boots chemist chain, I had one, crude but took ok pictures. They were make by Haking in Hong Kong. In 1960 they cost about £8. Made to look Leica like, as I said heavy and crude. Have seen them on e-bay as Leica copies for really stupid prices!!

They even had a Leica like red dot on them, (usually falls off!!!!)

I picked up the movie in the $5.00 bin at Walmart just because of the name. It is an odd movie, but it is one of my favorites. It stays on my PiMP(personal media player).

I can second the Halina 35X for sure. It's not all that bad a camera for what it was in its day. I had one for a year or two in the late 60s and took some reasonable pics with it.
