"Can you say disposable income boys and girls"?

Now THERE is an investment! Sure beats "dirivitives". It'll always be worth at least $1,000 as a shooter. Or maybe with a collapsed real estate market we sould all pool our money, sell our stocks and bonds, mortgage our houses to the hilt, and buy up all thirty of the things! Why not, my house is paid for! It'll be fun seeing how quickly I can get it dinged and dented.

Wow, These are kind of ugly if you ask me...
To me, cameras have always been like cars. You have to use them, keep them running, or else they die. I never understood the point of owning a #*%@ing platinum camera. you would NEVER use it, and it would just be a waste of material...

Oh well, I guess someone might want it...

Come on guys, be reasonable...

The Korean camera is offered with FREE delivery.
Now, at that snip of a price what more can you ask???!!!

Yes, yes, the world has gone utterly, totally, bloody mad...

Is there a story behind that weird hand print with a missing digit on the ring finger?

See here, Frank:

http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/An_Jung-geun

An Jung-geun and several of his compatriots had cut off the last joint of one of their fingers, to indicate their dedication to their cause, following the example of others throughout Korean history. When An wrote calligraphic banners to inspire his fellow patriots, as part of his signature he included his hand print with the shortened finger to inspire people with his conviction.

Reg. the 22k, it's not a lot in collector land. There are 3 more expensive Leicas listed at the moment, the top one for a BIN of US $63,899.

Look at it this way: it's less than the price of a generic M8.2 with 3 lenses 🙂 LOL

Roland.

I got it! When you get the inevitable dings from use, you carefully collect 'em and send them off to Bostick & Sullivan to come back as platinum salts for Pt/Pd printing! "Leica Platinum contact prints," indeed! 😉 😉

More seriously, these items are really just a sign that the 35mm film camera, like the wristwatch, has been a completely commoditized item for some time now. When that occurs, an item stops being judged solely on performance criteria; other factors take precedence. For example, the most expensive watches aren't a patch on the timekeeping capabilities of a $30 Timex. They're objects d'art, objects of status/prestige, much more than timepieces. The same goes for these Leica collectible editions. One can haggle price, but frankly these are little different in spirit than any other bit of expensive exotica including jewelry, classic automobiles, etc.

I don't think I would be interested in these cameras at any price.

There was one highlighted the other week (I think), an M7 prototype. It was basically M7 electronics, and shutter speed dial, complete with Auto setting, in an M6 body. Now that would have interested me, assuming that the camera's provenance was good.

Of course, when I say 'interested me' I mean just that - I found it interesting. I couldn't afford to actually bid for it....
