can you take a picture of your viewfinder?

Hi,

when looking for new camera gear, I love to investigate not only the technical specs, but also just look at the outside of the camera. The dials and buttons reveal a lot about the features of the camera. The only missing information is always the looks of the viewfinder.

The viewfinder is the most elementary user interface of the camera to the user, I'd say. It can contain all you need for framing, focusing and setting aperture;
- (bright) framelines, parallax
- rangefinder area
- match needle light meter
- auto aperture/speed indication
- ...

Looking for manuals, which typically do describe the viewfinder, is quite tedious.

I wonder how you technically can take a picture of a viewfinder.... Maybe using an SLR with macro setup?

Any experience in this group? There has been no collector yet who spent some time in publishing a collection of viewfinder pics?

In particular, I'm looking for viewfinder information of the minolta, vivitar, konika and olympus fixed lens rangefinders (I own the Canonet, so I know tha one already).

Groeten,

Vic

Ouch, it seems that we ALL own a Canonet 😛

Really easy, I just stuck a digital P&S and moved the zoom until I saw something acceptable on the screen...

Is that your living room? Seems a bit cramped.. 😀

In fact it's the whole house, I was already with my back at the opposite wall... that's why I'm taking so long to find a place where to put the darkroom 😉

PS: I also lost something like four thousand posts... even though I still have a bunch !

here are shots of the hexar rf with 50mm and 28mm lenses. the hood is extended in the 50mm shot. sorry i didn't center that one right.

Here's my Canonet GIII....

Did the same thing as the earlier poster, just put the digicam up to the viewfinder and moved it around until I got an acceptable photo...

Anybody want to post what a Leica 0.85 looks like? I would really love to see it, to know just how much space there is around the 50mm line.

Curious of the 0.85 too, as Jonathan!

PS: Nice gallery Jonathan, though with SLR ;-)

Thanks Marc. Most with an FM2, and some with my Canonet.
