Just got my new Nex 3 in the mail, battery's charging and I can't wait to play with it
One question, I've been over the manual and the setting menu, and I can't find any way to turn the LCD off while shooting. Is this possible? I plan on using a my 15mm-28mm lenses hyperfocal focused for street shooting and I'd like to be able to shut off the lcd while hip shooting to save battery life.

small hammer may work.
good question--don't think so. But it goes to sleep mode--you can leave it on, then press shutter half way--wakes right up. Battery lasts pretty long really---for 1 day oK.

I combed through the menu on a nex at b+h the other day, and was looking for a way to do the same thing. I don't think it is possible.
ps. Yes, I am that guy who goes round switching the demo cameras to all manual settings so the next customer will be asking why the screen is so dark and it wont focus.

It kills using a finder with the 16.
After I read this I took a look at the flash and the finder. Obviously the flash doesn't kill the lcd, but the finder does. From what I can tell it's because the flash base is plastic and the finder base looks to be electrically conductive. If you look inside the accessory port on the Nex 3 the holes where the two pins, on either side of the mounting screw on the flash and finder, are seated have metal bases. I'm guessing it's the closing of the circuit between the two post holes that kills the LCD. I'm wondering if an accessory could be fashioned that would just be two pins with a small switch on top that could be used to turn the lcd on and off manually?

This is a serious issue...well for me, because I'd love to use my 24 finder but....the LCD ain't gonna be on when I do....
