Harper gets 40% of the vote, 60% of the voters did not vote for him, and he gets a majority government?! Makes no sense. Wish we had a proportional representation system. Canada will become a meaner place over the next 4 years. Tax cuts for big business, social program cuts for the small guy, yeah! Just my opinion, YMMV.

Not a happy camper either for much the same reasons as FrankS. Seems the older generation values stability over all else and enough Libs swung to Harper because of this. I dread the damage Harper can now do with few if any checks and balances in place for the next years to come.

Will be interesting to see what NDP does. I think their gains were a bigger surprise than the Conservative majority.

There is an issue that I will go out and protest about if/when it arises: Harper announced (previous to the election) that he would like to do away with public funding for political parties. That suits the conservatives just fine because of the support they get from big business, but the other parties will be effected greatly. This will create an unfair playing field and I think it's wrong to be able to buy an election win.

Yea, the NDP are the real story here, not only for their gains but also in electing the youngest MP ever, 19 years old. It shows how deep the divide/dissatisfaction is when people will do this just to spite the Cons and Libs. I don't know if there is much they can do being in opposition in a majority government.

and that lady who works at a bar at my school (haha) goes on vacation during campaign time... and she gets elected.
