Canon 1.8/50 M39 disassembly and repaint?

Hi! Im thinking about refurbishing my old Canon. It really is in bad condition when it comes to looks. Otherwise works just fine..maybe just a little wobbly on the rings but nothing serious. What you guys think.. Should I repaint it or not? Any advices on how-to and how hard the dissasembly is?

Hi i know that lens very well.

You remove the master nut around the back element and the whole thing comes loose. Then it´s quite straight forward to disassemble.

The alum parts should be primed, the brass ones should be dechromed and the repainted.

Take special care once open the mini balls of the click stops can get lost.

IT will be a beaut once painted in black!

Thanks a lot.. Half way there, just need to rush for one really tiny screwdriver to remove the black ring. I wonder, what kind of grease or lube do you recommend? It definitely needs some on the focusing mechanism..

I'm no expert, but I read on this forum that Lithium grease is the most suitable. As a result of that, I used precisely this when I re-built an Industar I-61 L/D, and the results were excellent. That was a couple of years ago, and the lens continues to work well - with a very smooth focus action - so I'd say that it was a good call.

Any update on this. How did the repaint come out?

I don't think that the focusing collar was painted, I think it's black anodizing. Should be able to find some place that does anodizing in any city with industry.
