Canon LTM canon 100/3.5 - which one to choose ?

I'm looking for one of these for my Canon P, but also for other RF (Bessa, Leica M6ttl, ..). Please have a look at both pictures ..

For the Canon P, I already have the 50/1.4 in the same "style" as the black 100mm shown here-under, but I think the chrome one looks nicer, more "vintage", and will better fit a Leica M6TTL and the Canon P as far as color goes. On top of that, I have two Canon IVSB that would look good with the chrome one also.

The chrome one includes the separate finder, the black one is mentioned to have "faint haze", but I don't see anything on the pictures.

Is haze (I guess being "faint" then) easily visible in the pictures ? Can it get worse over time ?

Now, is there a performance difference between these two ? Sharpness, contrast ?

Yes to both.

No.

I've been lusting after the black version too, for the sake of handling and looks. Whatever you do, don't get the one presently on eBay that describes a "slight fog," but in the pictures shows what looks like a rainforest of oil inside. That second pic seems to be from Kevin's cameras--if he says slight haze, he probably really means it.

Both pictures are indeed from Kevin's cameras. I bought the chrome one. It just like it more, and since it's nearly mint ... Still, the black one keeps nagging on my conscience; I should be lesser behind a computer and more behind a camera ...

I have both versions. I've always thought the black and chrome one looked better on the series II, III, and IV bodies and the all black one looked better on the later series bodies. Seems the all black one looks a little heavy/bulky on the II, III, and IV bodies compared to black and chrome one. 100% my personal opinion. Your tastes may vary (and probably do).

The black and chrome look the best to my eyes.

You certainly can't go wrong with either version. This pocket rocket packs quite a punch when it's in good optical condition. One of my favorite Canon RF lens next to the famed 50mm f/1.5 LTM.

However, hoods are easier to find for the all black version (which uses 40mm filters) and filters (34mm) are easier to find for the black/chrome version.

for reason I don't understand

the black Canon 100/3.5 LTMs often have "haze" which is uncleanable as its embedded INTO the glass. I have not seen that problem in earlier versions of the 100/3.5. I don't know what causes it, but something does!

I would not buy a black Canon 100/3.5 without a full return privilege.
