canon 100mm f2 LTM, is it a good lens?

it has a good rep, yes.
but they are big & heavy, if you need a fast lens then go for it.
if not, the 100/3.5 is tiny light and sharp too.
and can be had at a much lower cost.

the 100/2 lenses are going at too high a cost for me.

do you mind sharing what the price is?

joe

It is $495 USD.

I see one sold recently on the 'bay at $425 and at $565

It sounds like it is in the ball-park for pricing.

that's a pretty good price.

ritz had one that sold for 599 u.s.

if i had the cash i'd like to try one and then decide if i kept it or not.
my 100/3.5 is good enough though, especially considering how infrequently i use it.

if you pick it up maybe you could post a pic or 2 taken with it.

Yes. I'm not at all a prude when it comes to lenses, or anything else for that matter. I have German, Japanese, and FSU lenses and bodies. (My wife is of Japanese descent.) German on Japanese, Japanese on German, no problem!

The Canon 100/2 is sensational, with excellent performance even by modern standards. And it's not all THAT big and heavy: it's 3-3/4 inches long, takes 58mm filters, and weighs 18.1 oz (514g.)

I'm attaching a picture I made with it on an Epson R-D 1. The inset at upper left is at 100% of the original size. Tech data: Raw format; EI 1600; f/2 @ 1/125 sec.

i was kidding (as you know) frank.
in fact, i'm the rigid one here when it comes to mix & match gear.

JLW: That is impressive.

I think I'll look for one in FL mount for the Pellix.

Because I can see the RF prices soaring into Summicron 90 range now.

Well, I thought so. Just think if I had used a tripod and a lower ISO setting...

I can see the RF prices soaring into Summicron 90 range now.

Which is ironic, because the 100/2 Canon is better than the first-generation 90 Summicron (the big one with the built-in tripod socket and removable lens head.) I used to own one of those -- good stopped down, but it had an annoying halo around highlights when used at full aperture, especially noticeable against dark backgrounds (e.g. stage photography, which I do a lot.) Switching to the Canon was a big improvement.

Don't know if there would be much point in using it on a Pellix, though -- wouldn't you lose some of its quality to the pellicle mirror?

There is a Canon 100/2 listed for sale on the Leica Users Group today. I forget the exact price, but it was less than $500.
