Canon 19mm f3.5 value?

Relatively high... Or at least higher than the Canon lens average (if you're talking about the RF mount). Did you look it up in flea-Bay? Or KEH? Apparently, those lenses are very sought after.

If you like very wide angle glass, don't miss the chance.

Hi, Kevincamera.com has a few of these lenses. As SolaresLavarre said, the rangefinder-coupled screw mount RF version is quite rare, and will fetch over $1000 with finder. The lens is very compact. Just an FYI, it does NOT work with the M9.

I have no experience with this lens, but if it's anything like the 21/3.4 Super Angulon, then the rear element will block the metering cell. If it's even more recessed, then the rear element can strike the shutter.

I do not know about the M8. I tried the Canon 19mm RF on the M9, and about 1/2 the frame came out blank -- a very bad case of color shift. I think it is because of the proximity of the rear element to the camera sensor. For comparison, the 21 f3.4 SA has a color shift with the M9, but it is minor compared to the Canon.

The rear element can't hit a shutter since the flange to film distance on any camera for a given mount is the same. It might hit a meter cell or light baffling for sure.

This is a very valuable and rare lens, go for it if you can. (and please post some example shots here!!)

I wish I had the $$ to buy myself. The only non-Canon RF vintage lens I have is a CV 21 because the Canon 19 is so expensive. I hope you get it

I have a mint FL version of this lens, which came with original Canon case, and FL viewfinder, and cost me $550. I added a Canon"lens mount converter B", and a Wetzlar Leica M-mount adapter, and I'm "there". At least as good as the Leitz 21mm F3.4 Super Angulon, for a third to quarter of the total price. Killer lens.

I use mine constantly and will never sell it. Highly recommended.

I do believe that for the price you are mentioning everyone would get on at least for a try🙂

I have an oportunity to buy Canon 19mm f3.5.
Lens are in great condition, comes with Canon filter and M adapter but no finder.
What is the value of the lens those days?
Thank you in advance.

If it is indeed the rangefinder coupled version of the Canon 19mm f/3.5 LTM, then the price without finder should be in the region of US$700 to US$950, depending on condition, matching caps and if it comes with the accompanying black oval case. The finder will cost another US$380 to US$500, but hard to find. A good alternative is the Voigtlander finders. The 12mm D finder is the closest match as it has an effective focal length of 18mm. If price is not a concern, the Zeiss 18mm finder will be next.

The Canon RF version and the first generation FL version of this lens does recess very deeply into the camera. The Retrofocus FL version does not have this problem.

I think you mean FL version. There was no Canonflex (or R-series) 19mm lens. I do agree that the FL 19mm is excellent.

Here are all 3 version of the lens usable on Leica thread mount cameras. The top right is the rangefinder coupled version with native 39mm thread. The top left is the first generation FL lens and the bottom is the late (and huge) Retrofocus type FL lens. These FL lenses are bayonet mount and needs the Canon lens mount converter B or the Novoflex Leica to Canon lens adapter to convert them into scale focusing LTM lenses.

Here is an example of the Canon 19mm f/3.5 LTM used on a Leica M7 using Fujifilm Superia 200. Sorry about the crappy labscan though.

Here's Mine.

Here's Mine.

It's pretty much permanently mounted to either M4-2 (shown) or M2. You can also see the "Lens Mount Converter B" which gets you to Leica screw-thread.

Hi,

A couple of months after I produced my Canon Rangefinder Lens book in 2008 I managed to win on eBay an officially produced Canon Lens Data book. It covered in detail the Screw (LTM) Mount, R, FL and FD series lenses up till 1981. For me the best part of the book is that it had the actual production figures for all the screw mount lenses that Canon produced during 1945-1971 (all deleted from sales in 1975). The production number that Canon gives for the 19mm f/3.5 is 980 units and that covers the two variations that I identified in my book. Both variations are the same schematically just the information on the front ID ring changed. The second version is the rarer of the two by approx 5:1 ratio. The book also gives time frames for the R, FL and FD lenses but NO production figures.

A T1 set sold back in July 2010 for $1275 US$.

I am unsure if the T2 version was released as a complete set in a single case as the T1 version was or sold as separate items, i.e., lens in round case with finder in own fitted case as many of the late lenses were sold this way.

Wish I had had this book when I produced my book as I would have given an accurate production number for the lenses I described. Peter

I have the 19mm FL version which is optically identical to the RF version.
It is a wonderful lens.

Was the FL version "rare" too?

Something I have contemplated a few times is a cheaper option than buying the LTM version of this lens. The Canon SLR (FL) mount version of this lens is sold for a considerably cheaper price than the LTM one. They turn up with reasonable frequency on eBay.
Presumably they are inexpensive (as are other FL lenses) because FL lenses cannot be used on other digital SLR bodies except micro 4/3 and thus are not in that much demand.

Being a wide angle lens it is possible to easily zone focus so the lack of rangefinder coupling is not a real impediment. You will also need to buy a suitable finder and a Canon to Leica adapter. Finders are readily available from Voiglancer at reasonable prices. Canon originally made FL-LTM adapters and those versions are quite collectible, hence expensive. But Novoflex and some Russian companies make them too. I bought one on eBAy for perhaps $50. So despite the work involved in putting all of this kit togther I think you would still find that the SLR lens option is still cheaper than the LTM lens for anyone thinking of that possibility.

Just a thought.

No, JSU, the Canon 19mm RF cannot be used on the M9. I was able to mount it with the ltm-M adapter without damaging anything on the camera (I don't know what I was thinking when I mounted it on the M9!), but the as stated earlier, more than 1/2 of the frame is blank, tinged with magenta. I also happen to have the 21mm f3.4 SA (bought from my old friend RobF here) which can be safely mounted and used with metering on the M9 with a -2 1/2 EV compensation.

I lucked out and found a "Canon Lens Mount Converter B" for $50, before I even had the FL 19mm and finder. If you buy the "Canon Lens Mount Converter A", and add that to the B, you can mount M42 Pentax thread lenses on the Leica. So you could mount a 17mm Takumar fisheye on a Leica. I ended up selling the Converter A.
