Is there any on line source for 40mm filters?

I bought a 40mm Canon from KevinsCamera (medium yellow) recently for $45 which included shipping. I made an offer, and he took it 😀 It's an option. Ebay can be a good source too; search periodically under "40mm filters". KEH also gets them from time to time.

My 25mm F3.5 Canon is now back from Essex, and it's in great shape now. The helical was nearly dry, and hard to turn in spots. Now it's very smooth.
They did a great job, they are very quick, and not too expensive ($95 in this case).
Highly recommended. Warm weather coming soon, this is going to be one of my favorite lenses, I just love this focal length.

well, i'll hook this up to the leica iid for a bit, then to the cl --- i can make a superwide day and shoot 15 on the cl and 25 on the iid -- should be here by the weekend -- am stoked -- got it out of a trade with another member

Only use the Canon made 40mm filters they are very thin and the glass is flush with the filter mount and do not cause corners to be cut off which is what happens if you find another brand of 40mm filter. I had the 19, 35 2.0, 50 1.4 and the 100 3.5 back in 1968 to 1972 when I switched to Leica M's.
A buddy had the Canon 25 and had someone make him a set of filters for it after he saw my 40mm filter I had on the Canon 100. If I remember the 25, 35 2.0 and the 100 3.5 all took the 40mm filters

ok... after much waiting and such, my 25mm arrived just in time for christmas
super cool lens --- now if i just had the finder..... oh, well, i can eyeball it anad the 25 finder is expensive ----- looks perfect on my black leica iid

Has anyone figured out what size step-up ring you need so there isn't any added vignetting?
All my older Canon 40mm filters have started to fail (the glue holding the glass has dried out) so I was hoping to use my modern filters.
I presume 40.5mm would cause added vignetting, but what about 43mm?

I have a 40mm->Series VI adapter. Series VI is 44mm -close enough to 43mm to answer your question.
The adapter itself does add vignetting in the very far corners, probably usable as a hood, but adding any filter will definitely be a problem.
Quick testing with a 49mm filter and it looks like that is not quite wide enough either, unless you find a slim filter -maybe.
Looks like 52mm would be OK. So if you can find a 40mm->52mm step up adapter, that would be the smallest i would be comfortable with.

I have several lenses by Canon. They include a 19/3.5, 35/1.5, 35/1.8, 35/2, 50/1.2, 50/1.4, 50/1.5, 50/1.8, 100/3.5. I sold off the 85/1.5 and 28/3.5. I use the Canon FD 17/4 with an adapter on the Leica cameras. I sold the 85/1.5 because I use a 75/1.4 Summilux. I sold the 28/3.5 because I have a Kobalux 28/3.5 and a Rokkor 28/2.8.

Thanking you for checking. Is it noticeably more vignetting than just having a standard 40mm filter installed (not the slim Canon ones)?
Is there any chance you've done similar tests with the Canon 35mm f1.8 LTM and Canon 50mm f1.5 LTM?
I figure you could get by with a 40.5mm step up with the 50mm, but maybe not with the 35mm.

I use a (regular) single filter on my 35mm f1.8 with no problems. Quick test showed 2 filters should be OK or a 40-43 with a filter will be preferred.
The 50mm will be fine with 2 filters or a step-up ring + filter.
Yeah, good quality color filters are hard to find in 40mm.
FYI, i use K&F concept 40mm UV filters and i am happy with them. For most my canon lenses BUT A single filter will vignette on the 25mm.
The original canon super slim filters are great.
